You definitely will need at least 3 players. I've played it with 3-4 people and thought it would be more fun with even more people than that. **Q: Has anyone played this with all twelve players?** A: I played with 12. Very difficult to maintain resources, while also building boat, so people were dying off quickly! In the end, we had 5 survivors with only room for 3 on the boat and 1 player with the power to choose. **Q: Is the game fun for 8 years old?** A: Well,Im not 8 y.o., but from my experiense, this game can be mean sometimes. You have to betray your team in order to win, because its very hard to escape all together. We have never won in friendly game, but after you shoot few guys of make em starve to death, its much easier. And even game itself can be cruel sometimes. So, while the game is fun and its ok to be a jerk when you play with adults, some younger players could be frustrated from such an experience. But it depends on how do you play the game, after all. If you are a big fan of the TV show Survivor and you want to incorporate that into your game nights! This game plays quick and has a lot of different variations on how to play it! If you're confused about the "great for large groups (up to 12 players)" thing, I've done extensive research, and it appears this means real people and not the empty void you talk to all day every day.Pros: The instructions are great. I've been reading them a few times a day since the lock down began 2,425 days ago. If you're worried about being bored once you've accidentally memorized them, you can still squeeze months of enjoyment out of the box. The artist really nailed the shading on the tropical leaves. If you stare at the box for severalhours without moving, you almost feel like you're on the beach with other people. Maybe it's a metal breakdown. Maybe it's a vacation to a tropical paradise that costs less than an antidepressant prescription. It's impossible to tell at this point.Cons: while part of me is giddily counting down the years until I can play this game with others, I'm a little hesitant to dive into an activity where you "work together to stay alive, but when supplies are running low, you may need to make some hard choices" and "team up to survive, but there's not enough for everyone: be prepared to sacrifice yourcompanions in case of shortage!"...ok? And? I thought this was a fun adventure game based on a fictional situation, but it just sounds like every single day in this pandemic nightmare. We all started out playing on the same team & for the good of the group. Then, times got tough on the island & secret strategies were being sewn. The ending was abrupt, loud, heated & quite hilariously entertaining for us all. All10 of us were laughing so hard & agreed it was was of the most fun group games we have played together. We can’t wait to play it again this summer at our big family reunion! Highly recommend for teens & adults who can play betrayal type games & come out laughing at the end. We came up with island style props & clothing to make it even more fun! Watch some videos online to get a feel for it & to help understand the instructions.
