I have a powered HDMI cable that gets too hot to touch within seconds of being plugged in. This pad keeps the temperature of the plug just above room temperature, which means it's not going to lead to or allow thermal issues with my laptop. The only complaints are minor: While the fans are not noisy to the point of disruption, they are not quiet. They are about low white noise level. There is no speed control either. The fans are either on or off--no in between. More positives: It is very light weight, but not the least bit flimsy.
