Review: Great Fan...Almost - I was wondering how this fan would compare to a 20 year old Lasko metal box fan (not the flimsy $20 ones from the drug store). This fan is extremely solid and quite heavy. The back end of the motor is sealed which keeps the fan from sucking dust into the bearing which ultimately destroys most Lasko fans. The heavy cord is very long. The fan draws only 100 watts on high compared to 300 watts for the old fan. This fan also blows WAY more air while consuming 1/3 the power. It may seem odd, but this fan also has a real nice paint job - black gold tone, not the standard sky blue for cheap fans. The downside - and it's a big one - the low speed isn't low enough. It's still like a jet engine and really unusable in a bedroom. I use one outside to keep mosquitoes away from and another one in my attic where the noise isn't an issue. Review: Powerful and Loud - I bought this fan because it appeared to be better build then all the others; TRUE. I bought this fan because from what I could tell was more powerful (had a higher CFM); TRUE. That said this is not a fan to be used inside a home or any room if you need to hear as it is extremely loud. Painted, but 100% metal. The 'grill' is also attached by screws; if that helps. Built to last...the weight alone could stand that point. **Q: This fan has three curved blades, most have five. Is this fan quiet or noisy?** A: It is quite noisy. That was not a drawback for me, since I mostly run it at night to drown out barking dogs and other noise. This green metal fan would take a double sheet, and lift it up, if you put some items along the side of the sheet it became a tunnel. It moved some serious air. My mom owned that fan from 1965 to 1983. That fan was built in a time where 'planned obsolescence' was a term that hadn't been learned yet. Back then people built the best products they could, and expected people to use them for 5, 10, or even 20 years. This fan, while expensive will last at least 10 years. I get 2 years from Laskos cheap walmart box fans. Yes, they're only 20 bucks, however there is tremendous difference in build quality. Just doing the math, a 70 dollar fan for 10 years is 7 a year. A 20 dollar fan for 2 years is 10 a year. Lasko is capable of making an great fan, but if people keep buying their low end products, they'll only produce low end products. Stop buying the cheapest s*** imaginable - buy something with quality.
