You have to slide it in long wise or else it won't read it properly. It's slow to read and is inaccurate. I have tried to use it several times for chicken and pork. Each time it told me they were undercooked/raw but I didn't believe it since it was hard. I was right it was way overcooked. Unfortunately I can't return because it's past the window.
