They were much better than anticipated and quite beautiful. The steel is extremely hard as I found out when I tried to drill out the pin holes in the handle. I ended up having to anneal the steel at the hole locations to drill. After some modifications I was able to slide up and attach the hand cut oriental style solid brass guards. The handles are ebony and ivory, pinned with brass rod. I left the steel as is and only sharpened the edges a bit.
