The "cape" provides some protection from wind and sun and can be configured so that it doesn't flap in the face. The face mask is easy to breath thru but drops in front of the eyes when I bend down. The holding strap, cape and mask can be used with the hat in several ways and can be removed or just mushed into the hat. The cape doesn't stay exactly in place, of course, so don't rely on it as your only protection. All the parts seem sturdy and the hat is a great value. I've paid much more for hats that delivered much less. He developed basal skin carcinoma on his right ear and underwent surgery last year. I got this item since it has added protection for the face since treatment of his face for precancerous cells after the procedure indicated the presence of a lot of precancerous cells on his nose and cheeks despite his wearing two similar hats without a face protector. I gave it 4 stars thus far since he has only used it a few times since it arrived and we won’t know whether it will help lessen the effect of uv rays on his skin until he has used it for 6-12 months. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ looks good so far. *by R***Y on Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2019* Being winter now, I haven't had the opportunity to use the hat extensively, but it looks good so far. It arrived promptly in good condition. It is very light weight and the material seems to be breathable. Assuming that the material is actually SPF 50, as claimed, it will provide excellent protection for the face, neck, and ears. I only gave it four stars instead of five because there is no sort of built in pouch in which to store the removable neck flap. The neck flap and face mask can be tucked up into the top of the hat, however, and the hat still looks more or less normal.
