    Great support

My first one stopped working in 4 days. We contacted the company and got a quick response. I received the replacement in one week. It has been working for several days and looks like it works great. So I decided buy another one because I know the company will take good care of the customers.

    Build Your Own Sterilizer Box

*by M***D on Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2020*

I previously purchased a Coospider UV-C small sanitizer and like it very much but sometimes it was just too small. I found these UV-C bulbs by the same company and decided to build my own box. But if I built my own box I wanted to know how well it worked. The construction was simple. I used a large solid color (not clear) plastic storage container and put 2 of these bulbs in the box. I put aluminum foil on the bottom, inside the lid, and all 4 sides to reflect light where it might not shine directly. I used Gorilla Tape to attach the small aluminum fixtures that held the lamps. The cords just drape over the top edge and the push button control is on the outside.I had a small piece of metal grid I had used in another project. I bent two edges and put it on the bottom to elevate items so all sides are exposed to the UV-C light. You could also purchase a baker's cooling rack for your bottom grid.I also wanted to prove my contraption worked. My son is a biochemist and physician and gave me advice on constructing a test and a little biochemistry lesson. Since you cannot see virus without an electron microscope I decided to test killing bacteria. You can see bacteria colony growth with the naked eye. I purchased a bacteria science fair kit from EZ Bioresearch (here on Amazon) to see if I could kill bacteria. I used the swabs in the kit to transfer bacteria from my mouth to the petri dish covering them completely by swabbing in 4 directions. I constructed shields from notecards to cover half of the petri dish on the top and bottom to shield it from the UV-C light. I then put the partially covered dishes in the box and illuminated them. I did two sets of petri dishes. One set for 5 minutes and one set for 15 minutes. The EZ Bioresearch kit was pretty cool and contained everything needed construct the experiment including detailed instructions. They even have tech support from qualified experts if you need it.I then built a small incubator using two 7.5 watt night light bulbs inside of a shoe box. To properly culture bacteria you need to maintain a temperature of 90-100 degrees F for about 24-48 hours. I used my digital BBQ meat thermometer to check the temperature and the bulbs maintained the box at about 91-92 degrees F.After 36 hours I took at the petri dishes out of the incubator. It was very clear that for both 5 minutes and 15 minutes of exposure to UV-C light by these Coospider lamps worked well. The shielded side had many bacteria colonies and the exposed side was almost free of bacteria colonies. The 5 minute exposure was slightly less effective but both time periods worked in killing bacteria. (Note that my lamps have a 5 minute setting although the description says 15 minutes is the lowest.)If you look at the biochemistry you will discover that UV-C light damages the DNA in the organisms that are exposed. Bacteria has more complex DNA and a relatively thick cell wall when compared to a virus coating (not technically a cell wall). The damage to the DNA either causes fatal mutations when the organism reproduces or damages it so severely it cannot reproduce. Because of a thicker cell wall on a bacteria they would, by degree, be slightly harder to kill with UV-C light. Other biochemistry mechanics also come into play but in general viruses are easier to kill than bacteria using UV-C light. If you can kill bacteria you should do a better job on most viruses.I also tested the smaller Coospider unit I purchased and it too had similar results. Since it only has one smaller wattage lamp I would suggest that the minimum time probably should be 15 minutes but the 5 minute setting was also effective probably because the lamp was closer to the objects. The bottom line ... SUCCESS. These lamps from Coospider are definitely effective in killing bacteria and viruses.CAUTION - UV-C light is harmful to eyes and skin. Avoid exposure. There is an odor when using these lamps in a closed box. It does not smell like ozone but I generally try to not breath it in concentrated form and it will dissipate without smell in a few minutes.EXTRA NOTE - I had one technical issue and Coospider support was great. They replied to emails in less than 24 hours and ultimately resolved my issue in a timely manner.

Not very reliable. You get what you pay for.

I got this on April 29, 2020. Just today, I noticed it was not working anymore. I built myself a sanitation box to sanitize everything I bring home from work or from groceries. I'm a Nurse so yes, I need to sanitize everything I bring from the hospital, especially when I work with covid patients. I don't know how long this hasn't worked because I just place everything in the box, and turn on the timer and close the lid, and just thought it would turn on. Especially when I come home from work, I have no time to check and just get ready to get a shower. Today, since I am off, I just tried to check if it would turn on, and lo and behold, it was not.
