There are two reasons for this: 1) The fans, connected directly to the TV, may draw too much current for the TV's USB circuitry to handle. My USB controller only uses about 30 milliamps (a small amount), when plugged into the TV's USB port, whereas the fans can use up to 500 milliamps. 2) USB voltage is 5.5 volts, so you would be limited to fairly low fan speed. With the multi-voltage power supply, you can select various speeds, like 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9 or 12 volts. **Q: Is there a reason that the fans pull the hot air out, instead of blowing cool air in?** A: It is generally more effective to pull the hot air out, near the top (where hot air gathers, like a hot air balloon). Pulling the air out should cause cool air to be drawn in from vents lower down. That being said, there might be a situation where you would want to force cool air inside, or have one intake and one exhaust. In that case, it is very easy to change how the air flows on the fan units, by undoing the screws holding the base and top grills from the fan, then turning the fan over and reassembling. **Q: The led light on the fan speed control box wont light up; fans wont run. Can i buy just this part?** A: Don't know but the seller is great at answering emails. **Q: Is there any timing so that the fan stays on for a few minutes after the TV switches off to remove residual heat?** A: No, the fans will turn off as soon as the USB port signals that it is off. However, the TV components should already be cooler as a result of the fans running before shut off, so that may not be a problem.
