I love this item, it is steady and can be fixed in many positions. I cannot answer though whether it will stay on a textured dash as I have mine mounted on a smooth piece just over my satnav. It sits there solidly and does not move. It is phenomenal in terms of how robust it looks and feels. I use it to hold an iPad mini and it has never let me down. The only thing I would mention is that we are on our second one now. The first one lasted over a year as a permanent fitting in the car and once we removed it and tried to use it in a rental it broke.
