        			L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid. L-Tryptophan is metabolized by enzymes to form the intermediate amino acid 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) and then serotonin. L-tryptophan is also the metabolic precursor to melatonin and to the B vitamin niacin (B3). Both serotonin and melatonin are important to regulate mood and stress. Serotonin plays important roles in the body for sleep, mood, appetite, muscle contraction, and some cognitive functions including memory and learning. Though there are many dietary sources of serotonin, unlike its precursors L-tryptophan and 5HTP, serotonin does not cross blood-brain barrier, which means that ingesting serotonin in the diet has no effect on brain serotonin levels. As proven by many studies, L-tryptophan is a potent nutrient to enhance restful and peaceful sleep, and also to effectively provide a remedy for occasional sleepless. There is not feeling of next-day drowsiness to take L-tryptophan. The body requires adequate sleep to regenerate and repair essential body functions and allow us to feel refreshed.
