The pole holds two motors for woodworking weighing about 10 lbs. I wouldn't put much more weight on it than that. **Q: Is the base removable? How small is the unit when disassembled for transport in a suit case?** A: I think it is removable. The base is about 24" square, and the poles will collapse to about 3.5 feet or so. I didnot measure it lately so these are eyeball estimates. It has been excellent for me overall.
