When it worked, briefly, I got 76 Mb/s or about 4+ MB/s throughput. I'm assuming that's pretty good for a 1x1 N system. It got REALLY hot after a few minutes of use.Cons - Under Vista HP 32-bit there are real problems getting drivers to install and update properly. Always wanted to configure itself as an access point/gateway rather than wireless adapter. Got very hot. Could not hold a reliable connection, if at all, for more than 15 minutes. When it did, I got a max throughput of around 76Mb/s or 4+ MB/s. My lowest was 56 Mb/s and not much faster than my G adapters. I think that part is fine for a 1x1 system, but it could not hold a reliable connection to a D-Link 655 access point/router, configured as an access point only, even with every security feature disabled, N only radio, and in the highest compatibility modes and with the access point literally 10 feet away. Very difficult to update driver from Buffalo site. I actually gave up. Better be prepared to follow setup instructions EXACTLY. Installer CD is out of date. Insisted on running in Ad-Hoc mode. Insisted on forcing me to manually give it an IP address to connect to my LAN network - would not accept my DHCP Router's one. Showed up just fine on my router's (HotBrick) admin page as leased and working.I've used Wireless G adapters (Dell, Linksys, and Intel) for years without these issues. I have 4 different brands of G access points - Linksys, Motorola, Xtrasys and D-Link - that all my G adapters interoperate with correctly probably 95-98% of the time, with security features enabled. My G network is just not a headache. I reboot it about once a month and that's it.Maybe it's just bad luck for me, but it seems this N standard gives people a great deal of grief. Maybe this unit would work like a charm with Buffalo's access points. I don't consider D-Link to be junk at the consumer level, but this unit can't reliably connect to it at all, and I don't think that's too much to expect. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product but slight problem *by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2010* I run a Toshiba Satellite which has a built in wi-fi card which works okay with the default software that comes with Vista and XP Pro. The only problem is; although I'm only a few yards away from my Draytek Router, I'm forever experiencing dropped connections, which were easily rectified by selecting the wireless icon on the taskbar and 'repairing' the connection. It isn't the router, as I experienced the same problem anywhere else where there's a connection. Updating drivers and reinstalling operating systems didn't cure this annoying and ongoing hiccup! I grabbed one of these from Amazon and set about installing it, a couple of problems arose which with hindsight could be avoided next time. Don't (whatever you do) connect the wireless adapter without first installing it's drivers (same rule applies to almost any USB device - software first then hardware) Anyway, I installed the software which went without any hitches, then plugged in the Buffalo wi-fi card and everything worked beautifully, that is until the drivers and software for the on-board wi-fi card starts fighting to be the dominant device, overriding the Buffalo wi-fi card, and so you have to disable the device and restart the Buffalo device and so on and on and on. I bought a second one of these for my wife's laptop, this time not only did I disable the onboard wi-fi device, I removed all of its drivers too - problem solved. Don't rely on this to disable your existing drivers, you're better off removing them altogether. Apart from that, this little device is just superb!!! Not a single dropped connection in over six weeks of continual use, whereas I would have to reconnect anything up to thirty times a day.
