## Description

Our Professional Grade record weights are designed and manufactured to exacting specification using the best available materials. The Jazz 380 record weight has a low center of gravity and is precision machined from a solid billet of aerospace grade 7075-T6 aluminum (7075-T6 has a surface hardness approx. 58% higher than commonly used 6061-T6 and other lower-grade aluminum alloys). The Jazz 380 record weight turns true and performs as it should – improving sound quality by keeping an LP in firm contact with the turntable platter to reduce extraneous vibrations that can be picked up by a turntable stylus. The Jazz 380 is compatible with most turntables with non-threaded spindles. With a 380 g mass, this medium-weight record weight is a good choice for turntables that may have lower torque or older motors (high mass record weights are best suited for turntables that have high starting torque motors and robust motor/spindle bearings). The Jazz 380 record weight also looks great on a turntable. Unlike lower cost record weights, which are typically painted, we use surface anodizing to both protect and color the surface of our record weights. The unique surface finish and rich, vibrant color of the Jazz 380 is obtained by a multi-step hand polishing and glass-beading procedure, followed by an anodizing treatment. After anodizing and inspection, the surface is manually buffed and waxed to obtain the desired finish. The result is a visually pleasing satin finish, with a unique color we refer to as "Deep Ocean"-a dark blue-black color. The attention to detail does not stop there - to protect your LP record labels and provide additional damping, a 1 mm thick EVA pad is affixed to the base of the record weight. A foam-lined wooden box (pine) is also included to protect your record weight when not in use. Specifications: Mass 380 g, 34.5 mm height, maximum diameter (at base) 80.0 mm, spindle hole size 7.25 mm diameter x 20 mm deep. Color: Deep Ocean - satin finish.

## Features

- PREMIUM QUALITY - Riverstone Audio Products are designed to enhance your music listening experience. We believe that audio products should be designed and manufactured to exacting standards using the best available materials and with close attention to detail. Jazz 380 record weight is precision CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum (a premium aerospace grade aluminum with a hardness approximately 58% higher than commonly used 6061-T6).
- BETTER SOUND - Improves contact between a record and platter to reduce the transfer of unwanted vibrations to a stylus. The reduction of extraneous vibrations reduces distortion - provides better detail, tighter bass and overall improvement of sound quality. Also helpful to temporarily improve flatness of LP's; a warped or bowed record changes the contact angle between the stylus tip and record groove - leading to audio distortion and additional lateral loading of a stylus.
- LESS STRESS ON MOTORS - The medium mass (380 g) of the Jazz 380 makes it well suited for use on most turntables, including vintage turntables. The medium mass requires a lower starting torque and the low profile/precision machining reduce wobble which lowers axial and radial loading of motor/spindle bearings during record playback.
- LOOKS GREAT ON ANY TURNTABLE – The Jazz 380 record weight not only improves sound quality, it is a work of art, and ergonomically designed for easy gripping. The exquisite surface finish was obtained by a process that involves multistep glass beading, hand polishing and anodizing for surface protection and color. The “Deep Ocean” color is a dark blue-black color; looks great on any turntable- modern or vintage. A foam-lined wooden box is included to protect the record weight when not in use.
- LARGE BASE, LOW PROFILE - Fits under most dust covers; however, best to measure before ordering (requires approx. 36 mm from record surface to underside of dust cover). With a large 80 mm diameter base, and a 1 mm thick EVA pad, the Jazz 380 record weight provides excellent vibration damping. Specifications: Mass 380g, 34.5 mm height, max. diameter (at base) 80 mm, spindle hole 7.25 mm dia. x 20 mm deep. Color: Deep Ocean with a satin finish.

    Great turntable accessory

After a lot of reading and research I decided to purchase a record weight, i know some people swear by them and some think they are smoke and mirrors, anyway I figured for the money why not give it a try, at worst it looks really cool, so I'm now using this on my Pro-ject table, There is no issues with the performance of the table, everything works as it should, no clearance issues with a dust cover as I don't have one...as to the overall sound, it is hard to tell, I am currently listing to Dave Brubeck's "Take five" the drums are clean and natural, as is the piano...hard to do a side-by-side comparison, but I know it has not taken anything away from the sound...The overall the fit and finish on the weight is fantastic, looks and feels great, the box and the packing may have been the best of any product I have ever purchased, just a great job...So far I'm really satisfied with my purchase, would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice weight at a fair price.

Boy, you're gonna carry that weight...

I can't say that I hear a difference in my vinyl, but the weight makes sense as far as reducing slippage and maintaining surface contact with the platter. Realize, however, this also calls for a suitable mat. The felt one that came with my Technics turntable seems unbecoming of the high quality of the turntable itself. I'm currently employing a cork base mat topped with a leather dear hide. I tried an acrylic mat, as well, but feel this pairing works best. Now, back to the weight. It is a beautiful piece, presented in a nice custom wooden box. The weight is light to medium heaviness. I couldn't imagine bringing too much extra weight to bear on the turntable motor, but subsequent reading has suggested that it wouldn't be an issue. Based on that, I would be inclined to go a little heavier if I bought a turntable weight again. But certainly no complaints about this one. Wonderful color and craftsmanship.

Very good record weight, GREAT price, nice case. Not sure it (or any record weight) improves sound quality, though.

Compared to the highly-reviewed Pro-Ject record puck, which I tried, this one is about half the price and just as nice. Even better in some ways. The Pro-Ject puck weighs about 2 pounds. I’m uncomfortable with that heavy a weight. The Riverstone Jazz weighs 13 ounces, which seems just right - plenty heavy to keep the record firmly planted on the platter but not so heavy as to put a strain on the motor.I bought it in Merlot red, which is a nice change from the typical silver or black that most record pucks/clamps come in.The case is nice. It’s hinged and there’s a little hook on the front so you can latch it closed. In contrast, the top and bottom halves of the Pro-Ject case are unconnected and there’s no way to securely shut the case. Not a big deal, really, unless you want to move it. Then you have to put rubber bands around the whole thing to keep it from falling apart. There are two possible negatives you should know about before purchasing:First, it is about 1/4” too tall to be able to close the dust cover while playing a record. This isn’t a problem for me; I usually play records with the dust cover open, or I just take it off. If you care about this, measure the height between your platter and the dust cover. You need 1.5” of clearance to be able to close the dust cover with a record and this puck on the platter.Second, you should temper your expectations about any benefits to sound quality. I think there is some serious placebo effect in the audiophile community, as those of us with disposable income chase every possible source of even marginal improvements in sound quality. Theoretically, it seems plausible that keeping the record firmly connected to the platter could only help. And this weight doesn’t cost much at all (the Pro-Ject is $85 and I’ve seen many priced at $150 or more). So it doesn’t hurt to try it. But it’s not going to make a warped record flat.
