When it mixes with water it produces a dilute mix of hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate. The hydrogen peroxide is what does the cleaning. The primary difference between the various oxygen bleaches, "Oxyclean" and other oxygen boosters is the percentage of active ingredients verses filler. This oxygen bleach appears to be about as high a concentration of active ingredients as is available. Unfortunately, the latest generation of higher efficiency clothes washers uses less water in the wash and rinse cycles. I have had problems with Oxyclean leaving white flakes on dark clothes. This appears to be caused by the extra fillers in Oxyclean.
