## Overview

Ricard Pastis de Marseille is a premium French anise-flavored liqueur with 45% alcohol by volume, crafted using a 90-year-old recipe blending star anise, fennel, licorice, and aromatic herbs from Provence. Produced in southern France by Pernod Ricard, it is best enjoyed diluted with cold water and ice, revealing its signature golden hue and complex herbal, woody, and aniseed flavors. A sophisticated choice for millennial professionals seeking an authentic, storied aperitif experience.

## Description

Product Description In 1932, a decree legalised the production and sale of aniseed beverages at 40% alcohol. Paul Ricard had just created the original recipe for his pastis, which he named after himself: “Ricard.” Paul Ricard was only 23 years old when he created his Pastis de Marseille. A legendary and daring entrepreneur, Paul Ricard gave the brand a unique identity that made it stand out. This also marked the first time the word “Pastis” appeared on the label of an anise-flavoured aperitif. Derived from the Provencal word “pastisson” and the Italian “pasticchio” (both meaning “mixture” or “blend”), it signalled a new era. In 1938, Ricard obtained authorisation to market all aniseed spirits at 45% instead of 40%. Today, more than 90 years later, his iconic recipe, based on historic expertise that remains unchanged, inspiring a diverse range of drinks made with natural ingredients. Review: Lower abv absinthe with licorice. - Imagine a fine absinthe - the only one I'd genuinely describe as "fine" is the pricey La Fée Parisienne, as all the others have been chock full of artificial colours and flavouring - but somewhat dialed back on the alcohol and a little extra added sugar and some licorice extract. Deceptively strong (45% abv) yet exceptionally smooth and transparent ethanol (drinkable alcohol if you didn't already know), with aniseed and a little extra sugar sweetness, a touch of herbal bitters and a lingering licorice finish. If it wasn't for the added sugar (I'm trying to avoid diabetes in addition to just about dodging liver disease!) this would be a regular weekend delivery, x2 minimum, especially since it's frequently on a discount of around the £23 mark.
Review: Perfect - There are two options available on desertcart and one is a few quid more expensive. I've bought both and I fancy the UK duty paid (cheaper) one is a tad more spicy than the more costly one which is a little more fruity. This seems to be reflected in the product details description but there is no obvious difference in the labelling. Both are good but the pricier one is better to my mind. Both have the lovely strong aniseed flavour and I prefer them to Pernod. They're also a better colour when mixed with water. Ricard is a lovely milky-beige whilst Pernod has a slightly synthetic green tinge to it. Anyway it's a fantastic precursor to you're Moules Mariniere!

## Features

- 1. RICARD’S ICONIC RECIPE: Based on time-honoured expertise that remains unchanged, it is a unique blend of ingredients: star anise, fennel anise, licorice, and aromatic plants from Provence
- 2. PRODUCTION: Ricard, an expert in extraction and aromatic blending for over 90 years, creates all the natural extracts used in the product in southern France
- 3. BEST ENJOYED: Start by pouring 1 part (2 cl) of Ricard, then dilute with 5 to 7 parts (10–14 cl) of cold water and top with a few ice cubes
- 4. NOSE: The intense golden yellow Ricard releases notes of pure anise, accompanied by woody and herbal tones
- 5. PALATE: The freshness of anise is subtly balanced by the sweet, woody notes of liquorice
