My child brought the lock home and it was locked, but partially separated; not fully inserted, not able to insert further, not able to pull apart. Somehow the combination was accidentally changed (more than one digit off). Watch YouTube videos on "how to unlock a cable bike like without combination" - it will explain that you need to feel for resistance as you rotate each dial. Took me me about 10 minutes to unlock (with a very different combination). First and second dials were 2 digits off, third dial was one digit off, last dial was the same. Be careful when you finally find the new combination and open the lock, either write down that combo, or immediately reset it to something you'll remember.
