I lost one smaller drive years ago due to heat, but none have failed since removing the front cover of the enclosure to get better airflow. I've never lost any DATA. They've been very reliable in 4 drive RAID 5 arrays. Recently swapped four 4TB drives for four 8TB, and still use the 4 TB drives but for backing up files but now they are mounted in my PC. Review: Fast and reliable drives! - I ordered two of the 8TB drives to backup information from 3 different mirrors I have (4TB, 2TB and another 2TB). I’m concerned about any one of the controllers failing and losing that data. While one of the drives fired right up and has been working great, the second drive powered on and was recognized by the OS but never spun up giving an IO error. I went through the easy to follow return/exchange prompts in desertcart and the company overnighted me a replacement! Amazing! I honestly thought something was wrong with the replacement drive when I received it as it only showed as 2TB in the OS but it turns out the older USB to SATA adapter I was using with that drive doesn’t recognize anything larger. I picked up a new adapter on desertcart which supports up to 16TB and the drive is now recognized as 8TB and functioning properly! ## Features - #9989; 100% CERTIFIED REFURBISHED - Passed Factory Diagnostic Software + CERTIFIED by State-of-the-Art software - Full Sector-by-Sector test to ensure best Hard Drive quality! See seemingly same drive w/ different pricing. Need drives for dock. some have warranty, some don't. read I might need special cable?** A: Some are renewed, others brand new (and thus more expensive). If your dock is a Sata dock, then you don't need a special cable. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ They work for me so I've bought more from the same seller. *by S***9 on August 13, 2025* I've bought a few of these drives in different capacities.
