I was worried it would be plastic like and its not. It mixes a couple different types of material, it smells and feels like grass. it has holes in the bottom so it can easily be hosed off and dry. Given my odd circumstance I needed to put it outside of my dog door inside my dogs kennel on my deck. Now he go out when i'm not home and not run off. He seems to like it, no problems peeing on it.
