## Description

Review: Deeply enriching! - The most important rewards of being a parent aren't your children's grades and trophies- or even their graduations and weddings. They come from the moment-by-moment physical and psychological joy of being with this particular child, and that child's moment-by-moment joy in being with you. A fascinating read, especially with the intricate details of how children learn. Alison Gopnik is a developmental psychologist who through her lab experiments and case studies, presents the picture of parents as gardeners rather than the traditional carpenters who work on children, keeping in mind an end product. It is 'parenting' vs 'being a parent'. There are some ethical questions that arise from our contemplation of the subject. Do we, as parents have the right to mould our children as we deem right, without taking into consideration their own unique paths? I deeply respect Alison's work and thoughts and was waiting to read this book ever since it got published. A deeply enriching read, if you are striving to be a gardener for your child.
Review: Amazing Book. Must read for everyone. - Marvellous book. The perspective, the content everything is just amazing. Highly recommended not only for every parent but for everyone. This will change your perspective. Alison Gopnik's books are truly remarkable. I started reading The Scientist in the Crib, couldn't put it down till I finished it. Then I started The philosophical Baby, couldn't put it down till I finished. And now this book, The Gardener and the Carpenter, couldn't put it down till it was done. To paraphrase, I am not the same person I was when I started reading these. Thanks a lot to Alison Gopnik for such a delightful set of books.
