It says you can surface mount and transition with thinset, but if it is too thick that would be difficult** A: The edge is thin. I did feather the edges out with thinset. It did cause a bit of an issue for me mainly because I had no idea what I was doing and the fact that I was using a 12 X 24 tile set in vertically. The transition in level would have gone easier with a smaller tile. I cut out tile for the sides and top and bottom and put in a glass mosaic on the back wall. If doing this again I would cut down the backer board by an 1/8 where the flange goes with a dremel or appropriate tool and mount the niche level. either way will work. **Q: Why is the back floppy? My tiler is saying that the tile will fall off within time?** A: Floppy? Not sure what you mean. We haven’t had any issues with tile adhering as long as you use the correct thinset.
