Noilly Prat is the original French vermouth, with the founding of the company dating back to 1813. Located in the lovely port of Marseillan, in the South of France, Maison Noilly Prat is surrounded by local vineyards, overlooking the Mediterranean. Noilly Prat Original Dry is the flagship of the Noilly Prat range, and an icon in the gastronomy and mixology world.Noilly Prat Original Dry is created using fine white wines. A unique production step in its crafting is L’Enclos, where a selection of some of the wines used are aged outdoors in oak casks. The wines lie in their barrels in the courtyard outside the Maison for 1 year. Six parts gin to one part vermouth. Don't underestimate the importance of the vermouth. Pricey, at least when I bought it, but essentials. If possible use a good gin - ideally Tanqueray for a Gibson - but if you're going to cut corners don't do it on the vermouth.

I love Noilly Prat, it reminds me of my beloved Grandma who used to enjoy this back in the 1950's. Grandpa would put with Gin and an olive for a 'Gin and French' or with red Vermouth and a red cocktail cherry for a 'Gin and It'. Lovely cocktail drinks. I keep up the family tradition now and again and especially at Christmas.
