I cannot say enough about that part of the item. The hook that came with it also is heavy and well made. I was looking so forward to receiving it. I could hardly wait to get to the postal service store when it came in. I was very disappointed however when I opened the box at home. It was not the lovely example shown. I purchased the blue one. The body of mine was blue with the the glazed color at top being only a much darker blue, not pretty at all. Before I made this purchase I read all the reviews. Most people were very happy with theirs, but one lady stated hers was dark blue all over and looked like a blue bowling ball. When I opened mine and saw the dark blue on light blue color, my heart sank and immediately I remembered her comment. I came to the conclusion that apparently there was an entire one time production of these that used the dark blue glazing on the light blue body and I was another one of the unlucky ones who received one of those. I can't tell you how much it pained me to to close the box and send it back as I liked the concept of it so much! The entire bottom comes off for cleaning out a nest! I had already envisioned my little Carolina wren setting up home in this house. If I could be assured I would receive one with the glazing as shown in the photo, I would buy another in a heartbeat. I understand the application of glazing is never exact as I used to do do ceramics myself, however color mixes for those glazes are. Something went wrong somewhere. My return was accepted immediately by Amazon and I was happy with the customer service since I felt I did not receive what I had paid for. I am inserting a photo I took of the one I received. I placed the house in a tree and it promptly fell to the ground, shattering into many, many pieces. I’m not sure if it was gusty winds or poor placement, but seeing the damage on the ground made me fear for the life of any feathered friends who could have taken up residence inside. Obviously, the pottery used on this house is very fragile. I have another house - different shape, same company - that is also pottery, that has also made a trip down from the tree, but without damage. Just lucky? Who knows. For anyone interested in its appearance: while the bottom half was a very deep blue, the top was an ombrΓ© of black. Not very true to the photo. It came with a flat, small but substantial wrought iron hook and screws for hanging in one of 2 orientations depending on your choice of location. It was shipped only in the manufacturers box, but it was properly packed in a styrofoam cocoon that prevented any damage while in transit. So I suppose if your luck is better than mine, and you’re OK with the darker coloration, this could be a beautiful addition to your bird’s neighborhood; just be sure to thoroughly secure it to prevent loss of the home, and possibly, it’s occupants. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great product! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my mother-in-law who loves birds. It was exactly what I had hoped it would be. Good quality and very beautiful.Upon receiving the bird house I opened it to find a chip in the ceramic on the bottom about the size of a pencil eraser. It did not affect the usage of the birdhouse whatsoever, but this was a gift I was giving for Christmas so I was kind of disappointed, because the box was not damaged but the birdhouse was. I contacted Byer of Maine and left a message about the chip. I received a call the following day from them and was told that since it was a Christmas gift and we were only 7 days out from Christmas that they went ahead and shipped another one free of charge so I would have it in time for Christmas. All they asked in return was for me to email a picture of the chip for their records. They also said to just keep the first one and use it myself to enjoy! I am SO impressed with their customer service!
