The same problem could happen with the bottom freezer drawer if something blocks it from fully closing. The refrigerator's built in alarm was too faint to notice the door/drawer was ajar, particularly after bed. This thermometer/alarm works as expected, at a good price. One sensor is in the refrigerator compartment, one is in the freezer. I set alarm to trigger if the temperatures get too high, and it works well. It could be louder, but it is loud enough. Not super responsive, it takes a little while (20 seconds or so) to register a temperature increase, which is OK since I don't want the alarm going off every time I open the fridge. As others have noted, it isn't super accurate, I would say it is reading about 2 degrees F high, compared to known accurate thermometers I have on hand.
