The Super 8 powered subwoofer comes beautifully wrapped in the signature NHT gloss black finish. Like most NHT speakers, the Super 8 is a sealed or acoustic suspension system--it has no holes or ports that can interact with its surroundings making it okay to put it wherever it fits in your space instead of the other way around. It comes with four cool aluminum feet to keep it from skidding around while it's doing its thing on your rug. For those with hardwood or other kinds of slippery floor surfaces, four aluminum floor protectors (pucks) are included to slip under the cones. Designed for everything, including wireless. EnlargeUnder the HoodThe technology and processing power in the Super 8 powered subwoofer is the same used in NHT's very best subwoofer, the B-12d. Start with a beefy, but efficient 300-watt amplifier throttled back to an ideally suited 110 watts. Unlike Class A/B or G amplifier designs, the Super 8's "green" amplifier converts almost all of the energy from the wall socket to sound, not heat. It's so "green" that it doesn't have a power switch (uses less than a D size battery power in standby) - only an auto power switch to allow the amplifier to turn itself on and off by sensing the incoming signal or an "always on" option. As impressive as that is, the real voodoo is found in the Super 8's dedicated DSP (digital signal processing) engine. The DSP dynamically controls everything: amplifier power, equalization, and filter functions --and helps the Super8 play quite loud, go super deep, and have super control. The DSP's also features a built-in limiter and compressor which protect the subwoofer from killing itself when you go into party mode. The speaker itself is a heavy-duty, long-throw 8" pulp-cone marvel that was custom designed by NHT specifically for the Super8's closed box, acoustic suspension design.The Ins and OutsEvery possible connection for your stereo or surround sound setup is there. The Super 8 has an LFE input with filter bypass for connection to your receiver's sub out and stereo left and right line inputs for your fancy 2-channel rig. There are also speaker level inputs with a built-in 100Hz high-pass filter (bass removed) on the speaker level output for use with the SuperZero 2.0 and legacy SuperZeros or other 8 ohm speakers. A continuously variable low pass filter is also included which allows accurate blending with any satellite speakers. A 2-position phase control integrates the Super8's output timing with your satellites, and a unique Movie/Music switch tunes the woofer for your choice of each. There's even a USB connection for use with a future NHT wireless audio adaptor (sold separately). The Super8 uses a super-efficient universal power supply to deliver full output anywhere in the world on a diet of 100v to 240v.Wireless OptionNHT has designed the Super 8 to be wireless ready via the back panel USB connector.
