However, I only put a handful of seeds in the tray feeder once a day. I hope not** A: Generally, sparrows are not big fans of safflower seed. I mix this with black oil sunflower seed and sunflower hearts and chips, which brings grosbeaks, cardinals, house finches, purple finches, flickers, and woodpeckers. Squirrels are also repelled by safflower seed and leave this feeder alone. **Q: does it take a long time to be discovered? Nobody likes this stuff** A: The song birds like the safflower. I started using it because the blackbirds do not like it, and they were cleaning out my feeders quickly.
