A: The manufacturer states that the filters should generally last anywhere from 6 months, to 1 year, depending on foot traffic.

A: But a filter that is inserted inside the unit

A: While technically this may be possible, it would void the warranty.  Also, to have some other liquid dispensed, it would be required to be under pressure, just like a water main.
