I believe it is called a spring ring clasp. **Q: It states 8.5 size would it hold a 5.5? I have a very expensive ring is the chain strong.** A: Yes the chain is strong. I wear this with my mom's wedding rings. Her rings are about a 6, stays on very well. **Q: Will this tarnish or is it coated?** A: Hi, thank you very much for your question. I don’t do coatings for two reasons: a.) on a ring holder it would rub off in the areas where the ring rubs against the holder and would then look unappealing, and b.) it is a highly toxic process that is harmful to the workers that engage in it.
