I purchased this mainly because people were having trouble hearing me when I spoke directly into my radio. This mic does appear to be of higher quality than those installed in the UV-5R. Using this shoulder mic I get far fewer complaints of being unreadable.I also enjoy that I can talk into my radio without pulling it off of my belt or out of the cup holder.Overall the durability seems good, I have not taken this mic into the back woods or through a swamp yet but it has seen some light rain, cold, and heat.The price is a bit steep when compared to other shoulder mics, however, I was looking to improve my transmission quality and clarity not just to have the convenience of a shoulder mic. Yes I know this cost more than the radio itself, however, I think it made my radio significantly better and more usable. Plus I have a feeling that this mic will outlast all of my radios so I think it is worth the price.I attached a video of me running my UV-5R through my Retevis RT97, I made transmissions using the mic and not using the mic. This was not a scientific test by any means, no measurements were taken during these transmissions.
