**Q: Would the Medium gauge be good for drop D?**
A: Yeah, I'd think so but I wouldn't go below drop D with the 105 gauge string.

**Q: Do these strings have a real bright tone?  I am playing praise and worship music and not sure I want that real bright tone.**
A: If you want to avoid any bright tone, then consider taped, flat finish strings that are designed to reduce string and fret noise.  Your pick ups and playing style will also affect your tone.  These are middle of the road for nickel wound strings.

**Q: Is this a decent guage for drop b on a bass?**
A: been using EXL-170 for years with drop B and D tuning 4 string - fender P bass no buzz super clear

**Q: How are the mediums compared to lights, i am looking at these for my first string change and i don't know what i have now. Is there a big difference?**
A: Not really a big difference. The most common gauge is 45-65-85-105 (Custom Light). If you like a bit more stiffness in your G and D strings, go with Medium. If you like a little looser E and A, go with Light. If you don't care one way or the other, just go with Custom Light.Mind you, again, it's not a huge difference. It's subtle. I like my E and A a little softer so it's easier to dig in, so I buy Lights (45 65 80 100).

I've been playing bass guitar for forty years, this brand has always been my go to strings. They last for years, hold tune, very good value, and sound better than my playing.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bright but not raspy

Finding the perfect string seems like a lifetime process. I prefer roundwounds on my Precision bass since I don't play Motown style, but at the same time I didn't want anything that was too bright or raspy. I've found some roundwounds (especially the ones with a round core) have a raspy high-end to them that never seems to go away. I had been using the DR Pure Blues but decided to go with the D'Addario hex core rounds because I know that hex cores are mellower sounding. I have tried the DR LO-Riders, but they were just a little too mellow for me, and also too stiff. These D'Addario medium lights are livelier sounding and bright but without the raspiness of the DR Pure Blues. Another thing I like about these strings is that while they are hex core, they don't have the stiffness or high tension you would expect with a hex core. They are very comfortable on the fingers. It's funny. When I first started playing the bass I used D'Addario flatwounds, and now after trying almost every string in the book, I've gone full circle back to the D'Addarios. I think they really are a superior string.
