When I first got the kit, I hand washed everything. Even the wooden tamper. The thing to know about the tamper is that because it is not solid wood, it should not soak in water. I'm not sure how; but, my tamper got put in the dishpan full of water. I noticed it there the same day. I rinsed it off and let it air dry. By the next morning, I notices some of the pieces of wood were starting to separate.
