## Description

A family classic- updated for the next generation of board game players! Dungeon!, the time-tested family board game of fantasy adventure has been redesigned with a new look that's sure to stand out on your shelves. This latest version is set to appeal to long-time D&D fans and reach an audience of new players. Players choose to adventure as a Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, or Wizard searching for lost treasure in a dungeon filled with monsters. The rules are easy to learn and play is fast-paced. The goal is to be the first player to collect enough treasure and escape the dungeon!.

Review: Game is fun, rules are easy to pick up and learn. - I played the original version of Dungeon a looooong time ago, long enough that I didn't really remember much about it. I bought this as a gift for family to play, including some younger kids, and it worked out really well for the game that we played. The concept is simple; you choose a character, move through the dungeon, and battle monsters for treasure as you enter rooms and chambers across the board. You'll roll a pair of six sided dice to determine the results of your encounter, and once you attain enough treasure you return to the middle of the board to win the game. Rules are pretty simple; you move up to five spaces and navigate the board, enter a room, and draw a monster card. You roll the dice against the number on the monster card that matches the color of the class for your character. If you meet or exceed the number on the card, you win! You get to draw treasure. If you don't beat the number listed, the monster attacks you back and anything from nothing happens to losing treasure and a turn or two to the fearsome beasties. Most of the classes are pretty simple, but the wizard has more rules than anyone else and has their own spell cards to deal with; they're best suited for dealing with the hardest creatures on the board, with the best treasure. Risk vs. reward, but generally it seemed that the wizard had more favorable dice rolls than the rest of us... as long as the game stayed short, and they had spells left to use. Turns go by quickly once everyone gets the hang of it, and the entire game we played took maybe an hour even though we were learning the rules as we went. It's a fun game, easy to pick up and play even for younger kids, with the only downside being that there are a lot of little pieces and cards to be lost if they aren't careful. It's about on par with learning to play Sorry or Monopoly, aside from the wizard class that does have its own page in the rulebook, but my 8-year old nephew handled it just fine.
Review: Dungeon! A blast from the past... - Lots of fun and brings back memories. You can play solo or up to 8 players and the rules are pretty simple. Still have the original Dungeon! that came out in 1975, and the updated version is a blast to play. The game can still cause trouble, you can still have terrible dice rolls and lose some or all your treasure, trust me I know. The cards are a bit small but you can still read them. It would have been nice if there was a enclosed paper tray that would hold the monster, treasure and spell cards rather than having them just sit on the table in little piles and easily knocked about. Still fun game and a great intro to young ones interested in Dungeon & Dragons.

## Features

- For 1 to 8 Players
- Ages 8 and up
- A remake to a great family classic

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How is Dungeon! different from Dungeon? I'm seeing two different box covers, two very similar titles, and the exact same reviews for the two games.**
A: I believe it is the exact same game simply re-released with new graphics.

**Q: Is this the same as the 1981 version? Besides being owned by different company? Is it played the same and have the same features?**
A: No it is not the same game as the 1977 or 1980 version (I have both). The original game had a Hero, Super Hero, Wizard, and Elf. This game now has a Cleric. It is very similar in level of game play and the new additions make it fun. Even a great way to get someone interested in D&D.

**Q: Is playing solo fun and easy enough to do? The description says 1-8 players. I'm wondering whether a kid would actually play by himself?**
A: Yes one could play this game solo. As far as a kid it would depend on his understanding of the game play. It's easy enough.

**Q: So is this game kind of an entry level, kids version of Dungeonquest?**
A: Dungeon! has actually been around since 1975 (Dungeonquest is based on a 1985 game). The main difference is that the dungeon layout is static in Dungeon (though the monsters and treasure are different each time). This game was basically an entry level introduction to Dungeons and Dragons.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun times for the whole family
*by G***Y on December 27, 2018*

I bought this for my 10 yo son for Christmas and the family (3 adults and 1 child) played it after lunch. It was a lot of fun and kept us all entertained. It took a few minutes to set up (punch out all the tokens etc) and we just had a little problem with the standee bases not staying "snug" to the upright. Not a big deal but was a little annoying. Pro Tip: As with a lot of board games get a couple of small ziploc bags to keep the pieces in. There are a lot of number tokens (to track undefeated monsters) and "cleared" tokens (to show a room is empty). The flow of play is quick and straight forward, after a couple of turns everyone seemed to understand the rules well enough. The aim of the game is to get back to the center chamber with a specific amount of gold depending on your class. There are 1-8 players but only 4 classes with a male and female of each:Wizards seemed to be the popular choice, more complicated and harder to win with but seemed to be the most satisfying. We missed the rule where you can lob spells through the door and this meant our budding Gandalf's got splatted a lot more than was intended! We had 2 of these, a Warrior and a Cleric, though I didn't really see the difference between them when playing other than the Cleric has to get less gold to win, and is generally weaker.No-one picked the rogue but after playing a few turns it seemed the rogue would have been a good pick to get through the secret doors more easily (3-6 rather than the standard 5-6), however once we started getting the Secret Door cards (which allowed the holder to pass through any secret door with no roll) that seemed to negate the rogues special ability. In the end the Warrior manage to get the right amount of gold to win, it took about an hour to play with 4.I would recommend the game to anyone with kids or who enjoy a good dungeon crawl with simple rules and lots of smashing heads and taking chests!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This board game is a Classic! Buy a copy!
*by J***D on January 20, 2022*

DUNGEON! It's a board game that is great for game nights! Kids 8 and older and adults will choose a Hero and delve into a vast dungeon labyrinth. Using sword and sorcery, the Heroes compete against each other battling monsters and collecting treasure. Collect enough treasure and escape the Dungeon to win!1 to 8 players (yeah, you can play solo) choose between four classes of Heroes (each have male and female variations for a total of 8 Heroes.)The Rogue is not the strongest, but adept at finding secret doors. The noble Cleric and fierce Fighter are strong warriors, find a magic sword and you'll be unstoppable! Finally the mysterious Wizard is able to cast Fireball and Lightning blasts in combat, and use the Teleport spell to jump between chambers! The game board is divided into 6 levels. The Heroes start in the Great Hall, a "safe zone" at the center of the board. From there, it's up to the player where to go. Surrounding the Great Hall is the first level, the monsters are not a serious threat and easily defeated. Skeletons and goblins guard only small bags of gold, though. If you want to meet your treasure goals, you'll need courage to delve deeper!Levels 2 through 4 offer increasing challenges with giant spiders, ogres, zombies, and other horrors, but the treasure coffers sweeten each victory!Want to know about the fifth level? Those vampires and mind flayers won't give up their treasure hoards without a fight! You better have a magic sword or replenished your magic spells before going down to Level 5!Yeah...that's about it... What about Level 6? I don't think ANY Hero is brave enough to go down to Level 6! Giant rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds are rumored to be lost down there! What's the problem? One word...DRAGONS! (Hey, it's not a dungeon without a few dragons!)Originally released in 1975, Dungeon! the board game was developed by the people who created Dungeons & Dragons. The game has been updated and released again through the decades. (My personal favorite is the New Dungeon from 1989.)Why the history lesson? Dungeon! is a time tested board game that has been thrilling families for generations, the game is reasonably priced and will be enjoyed by parents, children, and wacky uncles and aunts on game nights for generations to come.Give it a chance! You won't be disappointed!(Hey, if you decide to go down to the sixth level, bring some ketchup. Dragons think we taste better with ketchup!)Good luck and thanks for reading my review! I hope you found it helpful!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautifully reissued game
*by A***. on September 20, 2024*

The media could not be loaded. Dungeon! is a beautifully reissued game that stays true to the original version, but with much more stunning artwork. The updated visuals really bring the game to life, making it even more enjoyable to play. It's fun and easy to pick up, perfect for both new players and seasoned adventurers. As the game that introduced the iconic Dungeon Crawler mechanics, it still holds up remarkably well and remains a delightful, timeless experience.
