The books are sewn rather than stapled. However, I wish the paper was a little thicker because I bought them for drawing and sketching. Marker bleeds through. They definitely would not hold up to watercolor. That said, pencil drawings blend well on the smooth paper. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sharpie highlighters won't bleed on next sheet *by G***E on Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2019* I liked that they are light weight. I highlight sometimes with sharpie highlighters and they do show on the other side of the page but they don't bleed onto the next sheet. I use mine for note writing and I do intend on buying more eventually when I fill more notebooks up.
