The 18V LXT Brushless 2 gallon HEPA filter portable wet/dry dust extractor/vacuum, tool only (XCV11Z) is a powerful, portable solution in dust management applications. The XCV11Z captures 99. 97% of particulates. 3 microns and larger with the efficient HEPA filter. Review: Excellent small vacuum - I bought this Makita XCV11 vacuum as a compliment to my dust collector and wet/dry vac. Both the dust collector and wet/dry vac are dedicated to stationary tools so I needed a way of keeping dust from hand held tools such as my router, track saw, and sander under control. While I primarily use the XCV11 in my work shop, I have also used the XCV11 for auto detailing, general home vacuuming, and for water. I was able connect the XCV11 vacuum hose to the tools by means of various adapters. For example, my Makita track saw fitted the vacuum hose with a cheap rubber 1 1/4" to 1 1/4" Fernco coupler from the big box store and my random orbit sander required a custom adapter found here on desertcart. However, with the tools connected directly to the XCV11 expandable hose, the tool would pull the vac along as I moved. For a while, I simply accepted this shortcoming until I was sanding a dresser and realized that the job would have been much easier if I had a normal wet/dry vac hose extension. I found an old wet/dry vac hose lying around and with some Fernco couplers and a vac adapter that I already had, I was able to attach my old hose to the XCV11 hose. There is some loss of suction due to the extended hose, but even on low power, the XCV11 is still effective in capturing the dust produced by my tools. In the case with my sander, it clears dust which would otherwise clog up the sanding discs. I find the Makita XCV11 to be capable of doing all the jobs that I have asked of it. Thus, it lives up to my expectations. Although I have other manufacturer's batteries and those brands have similar vacs at a lower price point, I chose the Makita over the competition mainly because of the brushless motor which I see as a huge advantage which is worth the higher cost.
Review: Very good portable vac - I'm a laborer for a Contracting company. I create all kinds of dust and debris while I'm working. Like piles and piles of sawdust, drywall dust, Metal dust, dirt, insulation scraps, etc. I'm constantly borrowing my boss's Milwaukee portable vac so I wanted my own. I've had this one for about a week and it's doing a great job. I cut a drop hole for a stainless steel sink and the sawdust went everywhere. The wide cone attachment got the whole cab clean in seconds. I had to demo some toilets and this vacuum sucked up all the residual water so I didn't get soaked. Multitool on some baseboard to fit a vent cover, no issue. I like that the hose just neatly sits on the front. I like that there's a low setting in case I've only got a battery with 2-1 bars left. I like the fold out handle that's just another example of how Makita pays so much more attention to ergonomics in tandem with efficient design. I'd say it's not as powerful as the Milwaukee in terms of raw suction power but I don't feel like it's far off. It feels tough. It feels power efficient. It feels like a pro grade tool and I do recommend.

**Q: Where can I get a longer hose and other attachments?**
A: Regarding attachments, I’ve gotten them from Amazon and/or Makita dealers
I’ve found that longer flexible hoses are counterproductive; they use up the suction power (which is greatest at the vacuum unit) in the greater friction from the ridged interior of the hose. The longer the hose, the greater the friction loss of vacuum. Because of this, manufacturers usually offer strai, smooth extension tubes which have less vacuum friction loss. Studies using Applied Flow Technology software confirm this.

**Q: How does the suction and usability compare to the hand held vacuum?**
A: Excellent suction. However, Makita, in their infinite wisdom, made the 1.5in/38mm nozzle a little smaller (37mm) than industry standard so as to not fit any other manufacturers' industry-standard 1.5in attachments. Makita also doesn't include a round brush nozzle, which is always super handy especially with portable shopvacs (nor do those geniuses even offer a "1.5in/38mm" brush nozzle attachment). It would've been a 5-star product otherwise.

**Q: I need something cordless to get the small amount of water the bilge pump won't remove out of my boat. Would this be a viable product?**
A: I believe so, please remember to remove the dust filters. Other than that yes.

**Q: Can I use a 2 ah battery? Is the only one I have**
A: Yes you can.

I bought this Makita XCV11 vacuum as a compliment to my dust collector and wet/dry vac. Both the dust collector and wet/dry vac are dedicated to stationary tools so I needed a way of keeping dust from hand held tools such as my router, track saw, and sander under control. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1 1/4" tool adapter hack

Good vacuum. Not the most powerful, but adequate. Super portable and cordless, which is what I was looking for. Build quality seems good. Wish it came with a shoulder strap. I am already on the Makita LXT platform, so this works for me. Like others, I really wanted to be able to use this with other 1 1/4" attachments, like a brush, but this unit has some proprietary hose/attachment size. Also wanted to be able to hook it up to my Makita track saw. I purchased these adapters: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08K2GMKT2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The First photo shows the package, which contains 2 adapters, like the long one. I cut off the narrower section, right below the shoulder, leaving a tapered piece that fits perfectly into the end of the vac hose and the 1 1/4" brush fits right into that. For the track saw, I have an old tool hose that fits the saw with one end and this same adapter works on the other, plugging the tool hose right into the end of the vac hose. I will cut the other adapter down and leave them semi-permanently attached to the brush and tool hose, since this will be my jobsite setup and will be most convenient for also using the on board attachments. All things considered, this was a good purchase for me. edit 3/8/21: This just got even better. I decided to try to improve upon my old tool hose by trying out this one: Cen-Tec Systems 94192 (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NZZZ5ZL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) It's a great hose for tool dust extraction and the vac end is a perfect slip fit into the Makita vaccum, just enough friction to not fall out, actually enough to drag the vacuum by. If it loosens over time, I will figure out some way to add the 2 studs that the makita hose has so it will twist lock into the vac. The small tool adapter for the hose fits my makita track saw and is Festool compatible. My setup is now good 2 go!
