## Description

Inspired by the African keyhole gardening technique, the Classic 6x6 Keyhole Composting Garden lets you compost household waste and grow vegetables in the same garden. A central compost basket is used in the Keyhole Garden to conveniently place your daily kitchen scraps. This household waste is then organically transformed into nutrient rich soil that nourishes your vegetables. Compost fed soil better holds moisture and nutrients, while using up to 70% less water. Crafted from a durable food grade BPA/phthalate-free vinyl that ensures healthy, safe food production and a long product lifespan. Boards slide into posts easily and conveniently, with no need for tools or screws. Our innovative posts make for perfectly modular garden beds, allowing you to design and configure your own unique layout and size. It’s smart, sustainable and beautifully designed. Inspired to Give Back We stumbled upon the Keyhole Garden concept while researching organic gardening methods. This inspired us to create our own series of garden beds using this African gardening technique. This idea was gifted to us by the African people and so we felt compelled to give back. Thrive is a charity determined to end malnutrition in our lifetime. They empower communities with the training and simple tools needed to sustainably grow an abundance of healthy, organic, disease-fighting foods for life. Review: All you need to know about this - I purchased one of these in 2018 and just purchased two more in 2020. The current ones are a new style, but they still fit together into the original. The current ones are built better than the original. If you buy multiple sets, they can all be joined together. You can also build any shape that you want as the panels just slide together. You do not need to use the composter section. I put that up top as a trellis for peas. BIG NOTE TO EVERYONE: You cannot use cardboard in these. Cardboard is now coated with antifungal/anti-rot chemicals. So cardboard is out for composting. The big problem with these is that the panels bend at the connection points. What happens is that these start to bow out and get out of square. They do it a lot more after winter as the soil expands and pushes everything out. They give you three stakes (now aluminum tubes) to help. This is not enough. I purchased eight 8' 3/4" X 3/4" tubes and cut them into 32" pieces to stake each post. I am pretty sure it will need more posts. Each 8' length is around ten dollars though. The next thing you also need to do is you cant use all soil. That's a lot of weight. This time around I added 12 cubic feet of perlite to lighten the soil. You can buy it online here in 4 cubic foot bags. After filling one up with perlite and dirt, it still seems too much weight pushing out on the sides. I think I might try putting a 2X4' inside and screwing the panels to it as a brace. The garden is easy to put together. You just slide the panels down. Squaring it is a little hard, but just take your time. As I mentioned, it will go out of square each year after freezing, so spring maintenance is digging out all around the perimeter, straightening the panels, and then backfilling the dirt. It looks really nice. It does not look "farmy" or "country" like homemade wooden ones do.
Review: Only hard to assemble because I didn't read the instructions. What a great product!!!!!! - First off, To make your assembly carefree, go by your nearest home supply store and get many pieces of 4 ft Rebar, an Electric or Rechargable Drill, a Posthole digger, a long level, and lastly a good sturdy hoe to counter sink the boards just a little. What a fantastic product!!!!! Take notice the Hard Plastic posts have holes already pre-drilled. Take notice from a guy who put it together, and then took it apart and redid it. When you put the boards in the grooves, go ahead and secure them, it makes it much easier to assemble. Now, you could go ahead and just one in the top hole and one in the bottom to make sure of the length that you are going with. The Rebar makes an already sturdy product that much more solid. I have much more to fix but I found what's going to do it!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Height makes tending easier
*by S***Y on June 20, 2019*

This was super easy to put together---like playing with giant blocks! Lol! We bought this to make tending the plants easier and to keep out the bunnies! We planted a vegetable and herb garden using the square foot method. We chose not to use the cardboard in the bottom before filling with soil, though, because we had a termite problem a few years ago and have learned that cardboard (termite's favorite) as well as chunks of wood / logs as some garden sites recommend using to fill up some space so you don't need as much soil in raised beds (or whole gardens!!), is a bad idea because it becomes a food source for foraging termites, attracting them. We used all soil and made our own soil mixture out of bagged soil, bagged compost, some of our own compost which wasn't very much, peat moss, and perlite. So far, everything is thriving. We also didn't use the self tapping screws that hold the sections to the posts because we found we didn't need them and if we ever want to disassemble and move the garden...cause, oh yeah, that's gonna happen...but still, why use them if we don't have to? Also, didn't leave the compost area unfilled to receive compost. We put it in place, but filled it with the soil for more planting area.
