Review: Outstanding Glass/Tile Bit Set - I had to drill 12 holes through my shower tiles to install grab bars for my wife. I was more than apprehensive since I had never drilled tile before. I wanted to get a good set of drill bits to minimize the chance of breaking irreplaceable tiles (1950s color is no longer available). After looking at many glass/tile bits and bit sets, reading review after review, I finally settled on the Bosch GT3000 8-piece set. I couldn't have made a better choice. After placing the grab bars where I wanted them, I masked over the footprint for each end of the bars, then placed the bars back on their desired location and marked where each hole would go. Then, taking "the bit in my teeth," so to speak, I got ready to drill the first hole. I had filled a water bottle to cool the bit, just as I had read on some "how-to" site. I pressed the bit tip into the tile and heard a small crack as the tip penetrated the glaze. Drilling at a slow speed and keeping a small stream of water at the contact point, I proceeded. My heart was beating a 100 times a minute and my breathing was shallow. I was scared to death. Within seconds, the bit was through the tile. On to the second hole - same experience. Then, before I knew it, I had all twelve holes drilled and not one cracked or chipped tile. These bits are so sharp that the twelfth hole drilled as easily and quickly as the first, and every hole was clean as a whistle. I finished the holes with a regular titanium high speed bit, mounted the bars, and voila, a done deal. I cannot say enough in praise about these Bosch glass/tile bits. They are worth every cent andt then some. I highly recommend them. When you buy the best, you can expect the best in performance. Oh, and the case is really nice, too. And, the buying experience? It was worth the time spent researching, being a Prime member and getting the bits two days after ordering, free shipping, and everything else I've come to expect from desertcart. I also bought with confidence knowing that desertcart stands behind everything they sell. All-in-all, and excellent experience.
Review: Great tile bit - Worked great. Used it quite a bit already, and it does not seem to dull very fast which is great when working with tile.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can i use this on porcelain tile?**
A: Thank you for your question. The GT700 is not designed for Porcelain. The HDG58 diamond hole saw works well for Porcelain tile, Granite, Limestone, Ceramic Tile, Travertine, Marble and Slate. http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-HDG58-15mm-Diamond-Grit/dp/B003TO5F7W/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1434401527&sr=1-1&keywords=Bosch+HDG58 If you have further questions please feel free to contact our Bosch Customer Service Representatives at 1-877-BOSCH-99 (1-877-267-2499).

**Q: The description reads,'Chuck Size: 3/8 in & 1/2 in'. Does this mean there is no reduced shank and I need a 1/2 drill for the larger bits?**
A: Thank you for your question. All of the bits included in the GT3000 will work in a 3/8" chuck, the shank is small enough that it will work in both a 3/8" or 1/2" drill chuck. If you have further questions please feel free to contact our Bosch Customer Service Representatives at 1-877-BOSCH-99 (1-877-267-2499).

**Q: Do these offer any advantages over a diamond hole saw?**
A: Honestly, I have used both and I prefer to use a Diamond-grit hole saw, but if price is a factor and you will be using multiple sizes this can't be beat. I have used Ridgid diamond hole saws and also Milwaukee diamond hole saws and I would recommend the Milwaukee ones. The only issue with these bits is they can "walk" on the material so you have to start slow and I also use water in a squirt bottle

**Q: Looking to buy and use one of these to drill a hole in a decorative dish to provide drainage for plants. What size would be recommended?**
A: That depends on how large the dish is and what sort of drainage material you plan to use (aka "crocking" in gardening-speak)t. If it's a large dish, I would definitely use some sort of screen in the bottom (fiberglass window screen works well, cut to fit) and a larger bit, anywhere between 1/4" to 1/2". If it's a smaller dish and you don't intend to use screen in the bottom, I'd use a bit between 3/16" and 3/8", depending on the potting material and what sort of drainage material you use in the bottom of the bottom. Basically, if the holes are too small, they'll clog up, but if they're too large and your crocking isn't sufficient to hold back the soil, you'll lose it very quickly as you water the plant.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great tile bit
*by J***T on February 23, 2026*

Worked great. Used it quite a bit already, and it does not seem to dull very fast which is great when working with tile.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Drilling Hardened Steel
*by M***R on October 5, 2025*

I've been making knives. I need to drill pin holes into hardened steel. Not as easy task. I bought the 1/8" 5 pack. The first one did great. I drilled about a dozen holes before the shaft shattered. The 2nd bit drilled 1-1/2 holes and it just stopped drilling. I am using a cutting fluid oil. That is a must. Drill slow. With a bit of oil I drill till I break the surface. I back off and add more fluid. I dill about 1/3 the way and back off for more fluid. Then 2/3. Then final punch thru. Holse are clean and look good. I'm not sure why 1 bit lasted for about a dozen holes and the 2nd lasted for 1-1/2 holes.
