## Description

Serve. Protect. The Provoke knife draws on ancient karambit design but it’s hiding a futuristic secret. The first knife ever to feature Kinematic technology, it stays neatly tucked away in transit and comes to life when there’s trouble afoot. Around here, we think of Designer Joe Caswell as somewhat of a mad scientist. When we got an eyeful of the sketches that were to become the Provoke—designed in Newbury Park, California—we knew he was destined to become one of the most innovative designers the knife world has ever seen. Modeled after a traditional karambit, the black oxide-finished hawkbill-style blade is forged of a premium D2 steel for high durability and excellent edge retention. The opening mechanism is pulling the folder into the future whether it’s ready or not. Thumb pressure on the upper crossbar sets the chain reaction in motion, causing the blade to lunge to action while you’ve got a firm grasp on the handle. It’s crafted of aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum for supreme toughness. In true Joe fashion, the pocket clip is also a world’s first—sitting almost completely flush with the handle and likewise activated with light thumb pressure. The Provoke comes up strong when it’s called in for duty. How Kinematic WorksNudge the upper crossbar with your thumb—while the rest of your fingers firmly grasp the handle—and the blade lunges to life and locks into place. Shift the discrete lever at the base of the finger loop and the blade retreats into its closed position.Specifications:Blade Length: 2.41" (61.21 mm)Edge: PlainSteel: D2Blade Finish: Black Titanium NitrideBlade Thickness: 0.209" (5.31 mm)Grind: ChiselClosed Length: 4.96" (125.98 mm)Open Length: 7.25" (184.15 mm)Weight: 6.1 oz (172.93g)Handle: 6061 T6 AluminumStyle: Folding Knife with Kinematic™

Review: Just Shy of Greatness - Friggin' fantastic knife. Irresistible to flick open for no valid reason whatsoever. The clip is a little funky, but once you get used to it no worries. Worst part is knowing they make a kinematic axe now, and you're gonna have to ask yourself why you didn't buy that instead...
Review: One of the nicest knives I own. - This is a well-designed and crafted tool that you can depend on. Everything about it feels very nice and slick, and you gotta love the ingenious mechanical design. It enables you to quickly grab and deploy the blade in the primary karambit defensive grip, with the index finger in the ring, pinky by the blade and the claw pointing up. This is accomplished without sacrificing the ergonomics, as this knife feels very nice to grip and wield. It's also fun to just practice/play with. I really like the low profile pocket clip too. The D2 tool steel blade is very sharp, should hold its edge very well and be tough to break. The only thing I can pick on is that the knife that I received initially didn't deploy its blade too smoothly or confidently. However, it was just bone dry. After I lubricated the pivot joints with some nice knife lube, everything became smooth as butter and satisfying to deploy. Anyhow, this is definitely one of the neatest and nicest quality knives that I've ever messed with and I heartily recommend adding it to your collection.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is it worth $200? is it up to bm, zt, etc quality?**
A: I purchased a cheap $27 knockoff one then I purchased the provoke from bass pro shops .they had it for $199 I showed them a price of $164 here on Amazon and bass pro matched the price , after tax it came to $180 , a bit pricey but in comparison to the fake 27 knife the provoke is in a league of its own, a bit high priced but definitely a very quality knife , plus it's cool as ice ,
In my opinion for the price the sheath should come with the knife .

**Q: Don’t see made in USA anywhere?**
A: The Caswell MKV2 is made in the USA and costs upwards of $900. The CRKT is the production version, and is more affordable because it's outsourced.

**Q: Wondering if this is a genuine crkt product since it is substantially cheaper on Amazon than just about everywhere else on the interwebs?**
A: $149.00 CRKT Provoke by Joe Caswell, Folding Karambit Knife, Kinematic Technology, 2.41 inch D2 Steel Blade, 6061 T6 Aluminum Handle, Black, 4040 It say's here "Expected to ship in 4-6 weeks" - https://www.dvor.com/crkt-provoke-folding-knife-w-kinematic-technology.html?promotion=dvor-s-favorite-knives-18-2019-06-18

**Q: Is this legal in New York?**
A: It can be considered a gravity knife, and the retention ring can allow for knuckle knife interpretation. So it’s really going to depend on the circumstance for which the legality of the blade is in question. If they want to nab you they’re going to nab you and even if it if you get the case dismissed, that’s going to cost more than the value of the knife.

Don’t wear it on your pocket with the clip out or exposed, especially when riding the train.

End of the day it’s New York so it’s really up to the cop that’s questioning you at the end of the day. There’s been situations where they simply confiscate it and others where they’ll book you and the charges are dropped.

These days the city cops have been saying folding knives are illegal while fixed blades are legal. The ambiguity of the legality leaves a lot to question.

If you’re going to carry a knife with you in the city that’s legal, it’ll help to carry one that’s tiny with no locking mechanism or even a Swiss army style multi tool.
