USB 3.0 is built for speed, not noise free audio quality. It is inherently noisy compared to USB 2.0, so I decided to see if this was true for myself. I have been on a quest to extract every ounce, actually I am down to grams now, of the musical goodness there is to be had from my Amazon HD music subscription but that is a long story. Fast forward to this item's contribution to my quest, I had seen how seemingly minor tweaks, like high quality cables had made significant improvements to my system's sound quality, so I thought it would be worth $11.00 to test out what I had read about USB 3.0 vs. 2.0. I also purchased one other gizmo to take any 3.0 noise out of my signal path, a 5 pk of Audioquest Jitterbugs not nearly as inexpensive as this cable at $70.00 ea. but together they make a great team. I didn't want any LED lights, (very noisy), and I didn't want an external power supply, (also can be very noisy), so this cable seemed ideal, and the quality of the cable is way better than your typical cable and the shielding is superior also. I will include a picture to illustrate the difference in diameter of this cable vs. the other two items I also purchased for my test. This cable sounded noticeably better than the other two port multipliers I bought, and I have finally achieved what I was searching for in my system, music that sounds like the musicians are playing live 10 feet in front of me.
