Review: A journey, but in the end extremely satisfied! - I've had quite the journey with this unit! We live in a two story un-airconditioned house, and for years our summers have been miserable. After figuring out how to get a unit to work in one of our upstairs bedrooms (my office), we settled on this Whynter unit. It was easy enough to set up, and for the month that it ran, it kept our upstairs cool-ish. I wouldn't expect it to fully chill our upstairs as it is a big space, but it kept the temperature at a level where we were comfortable, which is a minor miracle. The unit is powerful and not overly loud. Now, the journey! After a month and a half our unit started making horrible noises, and it became clear something was very wrong. I worked with the support team, and eventually sent the unit back for replacement since we were in the warranty period. Jof, our Whynter rep, was very helpful and communicative. The only issue I had at first was that I didn't think I'd kept the box (we usually break them down quickly) and so figuring out how to ship this back seemed like a fools errand. Luckily my wife had stored it out of the way, and once I had it repackaged, it was easy to get it returned. My dearest advice, dear reader: SAVE THE BOX AND ALL OF THE SHIPPING MATERIAL FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN! Seriously. If something goes wrong you're going to want this box in particular. It is NOT easy to find boxes online which would work to ship this unit. So thanks to eh Whynter team we're back up and running, and no longer dying from the summer heat!
Review: So Far, So Good - I just purchased this AC unit 10 days ago and have had it set up for around 5 days. So far it's working great. It wasn't too difficult to set up. Took around 10-15 minutes in total. It cools the room better than two 8,000BTU Honeywell units I had previously working in the same room. It can be a little noisy when it kicks in, but honestly not that bad, and often it's pretty quiet. I like that it comes with a remote and a cover. I was a little surprised they recommended changing the filter every two months. That seems a little excessive unless you have the unit in a place with a lot of dust. The unit is fairly large, so expect that it will take up some space. It also works much better if you have both the intake and exhaust hoses hooked up and vented out of the window. I will say, the plastic slider that you can adjust for the window size was too large for the width of my window, so I had to trim about 2-3 inches off of it. Not a big deal, but if you don't have the tools to do that, it could be an issue. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but again, it's only been 5 days. I'll have to update my review if there are issues in the future.

**Q: Does it shut off when it reaches a set temperature?**
A: Unfortunately the fan turns off when it reaches the set temperature on 2020 or new models. 

I have been using these AC units for years, just purchased a new one and not happy the fan turns off with the AC condenser. I use these in my room 365 days a year and came up with a workaround. I set the temp to 61 an hour or 2 before bed. Then set the AC unit to fan to run when I go to bed. I will be looking for alternatives ASAP.

**Q: how is the water removed?**
A: If draining becomes an ongoing problem, get a 4500 sq/ft dehumidifier WITH PUMP! (I CAN'T STRESS "WITH PUMP" ENOUGH!) My dehumidifier is clear down the hallway and it still dehumidifiers the entire house making any air conditioners operate much more efficiently. The PUMP kicks on about every 16 hours and pumps the 4 GALLONS of collected water right into my bathroom sink (or tub.) The A/C still removes humidity, but NOT NEAR enough to have to manually drain it.

**Q: Do you know if they sell a hose window kit for this for a sliding to the side window?**
A: My window is too big for the window kit that came with this so i bought a 8 inch board from home depot and cut holes in it for the two hoses (I used the end caps to trace the holes). I painted it and then used a foam seal strip along the sides so heat couldn't seep in on the sides. It works really well

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good unit, loud, helped us through AC repairs

AC went out in Phoenix and this helped us make it through the repair. My AC unit went out and the repair was going to take a few weeks due to back ordered parts. This unit helped us get through the Phoenix summer heat. We set it up in our bedroom. The plastic window dressing it came with is a little unintuitive. We actually needed to use both but that covers the intake hose which was fine for our case but wouldn’t have been good if we needed it. Unit is pretty loud. It sits next to our bed and took a few nights to get used to. The unit puts out cold air but it struggles in the 100 degree weather to cool an enclosed room down. My room isn’t the most efficient when it comes to air leak but it still took forever to cool the room down. The exhaust hose gets really hot so you must install it onto a window. No getting around that. The unit is large and heavy. It’s not meant to be carried but I needed it in the upstairs bedroom. Overall it was cheap in comparison to the other less powerful options we considered and it does its job. After this it will become a garage unit or a backup if our home unit fails again. Only real complaints are the noise which I expect would be the same with any unit and that it takes hours to cool my master bedroom from 90 degrees.
