I finally chanced upon this product and having read about it's rich health benefits (and add to the fact that it is LOCAL to our country and providing sustenance to so many tappers, farmers & others) I was keen to try it and I am happy to report, it is absolutely wonderful!I use it with tea & coffee (do not let the palm sugar boil as that will curdle the milk, add it after you've transferred it to your tea cup, that is, just before drinking) and the caramel like flavour of the Palm sugar only enhances the quality of tea & coffee. I do not see myself going for white sugar any more!As for the texture of the Palm sugar, it is neither too coarse nor too fine but it dissolves readily so hardly matters. I found no lumps and it is largely free flowing. The seller confirmed that they do not add any anti clumping agents to make it free flowing so it is as natural as natural can get.Upon opening the jar you get a whiff of caramel like flavour. It is probably only 60% as sweet as sugar2. Moreover like any other jaggery teas taste best only with white refined sugar not cane jaggery / palm jaggeryAfter Trial and error i found that my tea tastes best if I use white refined sugar along with "this product" in the ratio 60% to 40% . The other issue with such a product is the cost isnt a sustainable factor and this can hardly become a lifestyle .In all fairness cane jaggery is sweeter than palm jaggery and very cost effective , but that has a desi flavour this one rich hot chcocolate kinda flavour .Just for the record if anyone wants to know from me the healthiest sweetner - Its Pulverised dates (date sugar- dates in dried powder form ).
