Agatha Christie's Poirot, Series 10

Season 10- Some excellent some good, ALL were intense and sometimes disturbing!
When I write this season was disturbing at times, I am referring to the intense acting and bizarre/bloody plots for a few of the shows. In Blue Train this was my second least favorite in this season. The writing for Poirots character was up and down, almost passive- aggressive. Poirot meets a newly wealthy women whom he befriends to the bizarre behavior of going to her table without being invited, then helps himself to her wine rather than have her sit and become embarrassed by the sommelier- VERY UN Poirot, when mere minutes before he had been lurking around corners checking out the other characters, being aloof and rude to many, then cheerful and imposing to her. The movie was consistently like this. I thought a few actor's were excellent but some of the scenes were not needed and bizarre. The killing of the Heiress was over done by having no face after a brutal beating.. for 'the heck of it'. BUT the train, the house, the location and the actress playing the Lady off the manor, PLEASE excuse my loss of her name! - was excellent and made the movie. Not my favorite Poirot movie. In Cards on the Table the acting was excellent, but I found the plot disturbing! I can't pinpoint why, I just did. The writing was excellent bringing four 'criminals' and four sleuths together for dinner and bridge- of course!! BRIDGE! To me Poirot was as we usually see him, using his method and psychology to figure out the killer. I think what bothered me was the way a few characters were killed... the doctor/needle being one! But overall a well written show. After The Funeral was my favorite of the four movies this 10th season. Again 'brutal' murder and EXCELLENT acting. The book and movie are very close in accuracy with a few character changes that I felt were great. The gal who played Cora's lady friend deserves an award for her superb acting! I found the characters enjoyable to watch, but bringing in the nuns was odd because at the first of the show you are led to believe they played a huge role when they didn't. It is fun to see different locations used between Poirot and Marple shows, this being the Country home.My least favorite, but probably best acted was At the Flood. My least favorite because it was so DISTURBING! The acting from a few characters were excellent. From the horror of the house being blown to pieces by a psycho (David) , and the continuous horrors he inflicts on the family and his 'sister' and one of the women actually falling in love with him was.... again, disturbing. It got to the point of my eyes rolling after a while! The large family of characters was also bizarre from a an older woman making hideous anonymous phone calls! , to a drug addicted-money hungry Dr. I think the show was odd. I will have to read this book as I have not yet and maybe it will change my mind?David Suchet is the consummate Poirot which bears saying again and again. The behind the scenes people from dressers, location management, costumes to the editors has and ALWAYS been amazing. Most of the die hard fans of Poirot and Marple books and shows are very critical because of our beloved writer Agatha Christie. All of the Poirot seasons have excellent and good shows and I feel most of us agree we see a change in Poirot s character through the years until the last show. I like that the writers changed Poirot s character as the years passed because we all change as we get older, maybe become a bit cynical, a bit short fused and have seen and heard 'it all', so for me the darker Poirot is fine as long as there is consistency.

The Best Poirot Season Yet!
I've been a fan of both Agatha Christie and David Suchet's Poirot since I was literally a child but Taken at the Flood, found in this Season, is the greatest Poirot adaptation ever. It is also I should note, something which won't annoy an atheist but will be especially meaningful to Catholic and Protestant Christians. (Having been all three of these, I am uniquely able to comment on this.)I wouldn't have expected a subtle affirmation of the ideal of Christian love for all people in a murder mystery but this delivered it and did so in such a subtle way that even an atheist wouldn't be able to offended by it. The villain is also incredible and once again, one whom an atheist would find believable while a Christian would find the same especially horrifying.I can't recommend this Season enough ESPECIALLY for Taken at the Flood.

Blu-Ray *Featurette* 45:36-minutes!
I really can't add much to the other reviews, but I'll go into a little detail about the Special Featurette that is on POIROT SERIES 10 BLU-RAY. I don't know if this featurette has been included on the DVD version or some other version of "Poirot ," but it is not been repeated in the previous Blu-Ray Series numbers 1-9, and interviews with the cast members from Series 10 indicate that it was a new special taped during that time.*** FEATURETTE ***"Behind-The-Scenes -- 45:36- minutesInterviews with lead actor David Suchet (who has been portraying "Hercule Poirot" for 16-years) and how he will become the first actor to complete all Poirot stories on film. It also shows him getting into character and the makeup required to achieve Christie's description and features interviews with makeup artist, Shawn Turner. Likewise, you'll get to meet Suchet's stand-in, Peter Hale, and also see interviews with other guest staring cast members like Elliott Gould, Lindsay Duncan, Zoe Wannamaker (Ariadne Oliver), and others. There's also interviews with director Maurice Phillips, producer Trevor Hopkins and location shots. And to round things out is an interview with costumer Jason Gill who shows us the meticulous detail that goes into outfitting the characters including small things like accessories (this was fascinating to watch and I wish it was longer). The show itself is still great and so I would recommend it!

David Suchet is perfect as Poirot
David Suchet is so perfect as Poirot! I'm so glad that there is a place to watch all of the episodes. In these episodes both Captain Hastings and Miss Lemon are absent. It's such a shame as they play off each other so well. While I like Zoe Wanamaker I'm not crazy about Ariadne Oliver. It's such a joke that she inserts herself into the cases and the police allow it. It's just too farfetched. The costumes and the homes they use are absolutely beautiful. I miss the art deco from the earlier episodes and Poirot's old apartment. The new one is so dark. I love this series as I am a huge Agatha Christie fan. I started reading her books when I outgrew Nancy Drew and I still enjoy reading them today.

intersting as always
The Poirot character never fails to make the series interesting. Beautifully played by David S. Do miss Inspector Japp and Hastings though as they added humour to the movies. Love the mysteries like The Blue Train in this season - very realistic, one feels one is jostled around on the train and all those classic compartments add to the suspense.

Stimulating brain food from Suchet and Agatha Christie.
This series of dvds is excellent,. albeit, some are quite expensive being several years since released. I have 3 of the thirteen yet to purchase. Highly recommended for arm-chair sleuths. A fan from Atlantic Canada.
