easy exchange
Perfect fit for my dws779 miter saw. About a 10 minute swap. Bearings were shot on mine. I have used it some and it is great! Will update if any changes occur.

Good so far
The main armature bearing was going bad in my DWS779 mitre saw. I bought a cheap bearing puller to replace the bearing but the tool broke and damaged the belt pulley. DeWalt service center wanted $270 to replace the one armature bearing. I bought this complete armature assembly for $170 and after the 15 minutes it took to replace, my saw sounds brand new again.

Does NOT fit DWS780 Type 1!
As other reviewers have mentioned, this armature is too long and does not fit some DWS780 saws. Since the different Type numbers associated with the model numbers are not specified in the listing, I took a gamble. My DWS780 is a Type 1 and was assembled in 2013. This N143958 is NOT the same as the factory armature in a Type 1! I measured from the outer plane of the two bearings and came up with a difference of 0.463". I am including pictures with this review of my measurements. Not related to the part, but perhaps still relevant...I noticed a burn mark on my motor case near the tab on which the brush spring is seated. That spring was not putting sufficient pressure on the spring for good contact with the armature. I used sandpaper to clean the carbon off of the armature where the brushes make contact and bent the spring tab so that the spring put more pressure on the brush. After doing that, my motor worked again without replacing the armature. For how long? Time will tell.

Motor fine, saw design bad
This fixed my saw with failed bearings, but sucks that Dewalt didn't design the saw so the bearings could be easily replaced. 5* for the motor, reduced to 4* because -1* for the design. :-(

DeWalt DWS780 Armature
The N143958 DeWalt armature is advertised to fit a DeWalt DWS780 miter saw. It does not. The advertised armature is 1/2" longer than the armature I removed from my DWS780 miter saw. It is too long for my motor housing. The bearings, communicator and armature stack fit the cavits within the housing, but the overall length of the unit prohibited assembly. See pictures.

I returned this product because it didn't work on the machine at any time. I said I wanted a give card on Amazon and I wanted my money back, but it was a robbery that this company, Amazon, did. They forced me to buy something else.
