The first volume of a four-part, full-color graphic novel adaptation of the second book in George R. R. Martin’s landmark Song of Ice and Fire series, the inspiration for HBO ’ s Game of Thrones . The four-part graphic novel adaptation of A Game of Thrones proved that George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire has the power to enchant in any medium. Now the story continues as New York Times bestselling author Landry Q. Walker and illustrator Mel Rubi introduce a thrilling new series based on the second book in the landmark saga. Time is out of joint. The summer of peace and plenty, ten years long, is drawing to a close, and the harsh, chill winter approaches like an angry beast. Two great leaders—Lord Eddard Stark and King Robert Baratheon—who held sway over an age of enforced peace are dead, victims of royal treachery. Now, from the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding walls of Winterfell, chaos reigns as pretenders to the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms prepare to stake their claims through tempest, turmoil, and war. As a prophecy of doom cuts across the sky—a comet the color of blood and flame—six factions struggle for control of a divided land. Eddard’s son Robb has declared himself King in the North. In the south, Joffrey, the heir apparent, rules in name only, victim of the scheming courtiers who teem over King’s Landing. Robert Baratheon’s two brothers each seek his own dominion, while a disfavored house turns once more to conquest. And a continent away, an exiled queen, the Mother of Dragons, risks everything to lead her precious brood across a hard, hot desert to win back the crown that is rightfully hers. Against a backdrop of incest and fratricide, alchemy and murder, the price of glory may be measured in blood. And the spoils of victory may just go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel . . . and the coldest hearts. For when rulers clash, all the land feels the tremors. Review: It’s a small comic - It’s really great recommend reading Review: Another Great Adaptation - This graphic novel is the first volume of a four volume adaptation of George R. R. Martin's original novel of the same name. The second season of the HBO Series Game of Thrones was based on the same novel. So, if you are looking to compare this volume to the TV show, it covers roughly the same story as the first two or three episodes of season 2. Although the scripting and pencils are done by different individuals than the crew that adapted the first novel in the series, the writing and art continue to be top notch. The story is well told and the art is often stunningly beautiful. In fact, artist Mel Rubi manages to bring a great deal of expressiveness to the characters that the previous volumes lacked. The only drawback is that, like the TV series, the creators attempted to cram this adaptation of this second novel into the same amount of space that was given to the first novel (which is significantly shorter). In both media, the adapters are omitting more details of the story. Nevertheless, the graphic novel version does follow the original novel more closely and you definitely get more story detail (or at least different details) than you do in the TV series. Unlike the adaptation of the first novel, the additional features in this volume are nothing special - it's just a gallery of alternate covers for the individual issues of the comic book. But otherwise, the hardcover is a nice volume, featuring high quality paper and a binding that feels genuinely sturdy. Also, it might be worth noting that unlike the previous volumes, this particular volume is relatively PG rated. So, if you've been wanting to show your kids some Game of Thrones in comic book form, this one is somewhat safe.

Marvelous
Excellent, beautifully drawn. I skipped the Game of Thrones graphic novel because I didn't like the art style. This artist is much better, magnificent must own for any ASOIAF fan.
