He’s in first grade and he’s behind on his sight words. My son suffers from autism level 2 and we’re in the process of getting him evaluated for add or adhd. It’s hard to teach him his sight words so I bought this game so that we can play it on family game night. I took the fishes with the words he needs to learn and once he’s got those down I’ll put in the rest of the fishes. But he loves this game at first he could only really get the easy words but now he’s starting to master the more challenging words for him. But it does take time and a lot of play time to see improvement. I bought this one and bingo Game for sight words but I like this one more because you can choose the words he’s struggling on and make it more individualized for his learning. I plan on using it with my toddler once he becomes a preschool age it will help with his motor skills and language. Review: Awesome Value! - The wooden, magnetic fish are really well made and will survive a lot of use. Packs up neatly in a small box for easy storage. The pool and fishing rods are small, but could easily be replaced with a kiddie pool and larger fishing rods if you wanted to use the fish with a much larger group of kids. Perfect as is for 2 children. My 5yo loved fishing and never noticed we were having fun and learning sight words. Better than worksheets any day! Would definitely recommend this product to teachers or homeschool families.

Great learning tool
I was looking for a fun tool to learn sight words and I am so happy that I found this fishing set. My son absolutely loves it. It’s so fun to play and learn at the same time. His reading skills improved a lot and he loves to read on his own now. I definitely recommend this!

Cute game, but be warned: the Dolch site words do not contain all numbers and colors!
Let me start by saying that this does indeed include the Dolch sight words. However, I did not realize that the Dolch lists were missing certain numbers up to 10 and colors (nine, orange, pink, purple, gray...!) So WTH Dolch?! Obviously that's my fault for not researching what exactly the Dolch word lists include and NOT the fault of the product. And my rating is not based on that. The game itself is very cute and well made, with wooden fish and 2 wooden magnetic poles. I took off one star because the little fish pond that comes with the game doesn't stand up the way it looks in the picture and is made out of very flimsy nylon. However, it's not necessary to use it in order to play the game, so I'd still recommend it, as long as you understand that it doesn't include all colors and numbers up to 10.

SIGHT WORD FISHING
Colorful and well-crafted learning fun. To make storage easier, I added a drawstring to the "fishing pool" so that all of the fish could be gathered up for storage. It would have been handy to have a chart for each of the word levels so the fish could be placed on them as if playing "coverall bingo". I plan on making such a chart for each word level. I have not compared these words to her school words as yet, however, plan on using reverse side of the fish to add any needed words. I totally recommend this educational product.

Encouraged by 5 year old Granddaughter to Read
Most things intellectual and physical come easily to my granddaughter - which makes her lazy when an effort is required. Her parents have read books to her every day since she was in the womb so she loves stories - being read to her. She wants to read but doesn't want to make the effort. Since she received this for her birthday in August, the whining and "I don't want to" have completely stopped! She played this game everyday for a week or so and continues to play with it at least 3 times a week 2 months later. And she just finished her first chapter book. While most of it was read to her, she followed along and chimed in when she recognized words from this fishing game! Excellent tool for encouraging young readers!

A favorite and versatile game
This game is a favorite of the children in my reading classes. It's bright and sturdy. There are many ways to use the game. A child who is just learning letters can catch a fish and say any letters he/shek recognizes. Those who know the words can read them and make oral sentences. In one group, a child who didn't know any letters yet, was the group fish-weigher. He counted the letters in each fish caught, and announced the weight of the fish --the number of letters in it. A great, simple and versatile game. It arrived with the magnet having fallen out of one fishing rod. The magnet was loose in the box, but fixable with gorilla glue.
