Great movie to watch

Brilliant

A very good DVD good story line a bitt like the other Karate Kid , I watch these over again

I found this adaption very entertaining and had a great modern take to it, although slightly concerned why they didn't call it "The Kung Fu Kid" instead, even though it pays homage to "The Karate Kid". Jackie Chan as an actor never fails to impress with his skills and comedy timing and appeared to have brilliant chemistry with young Jaden, who I found impressive to watch too - he also had great comedy timing and did the emotional scenes well. I also found the rest of the cast very talented, I particularly enjoyed watching Zhenwei Wang who played Cheng the bully. What I can't understand is why the UK region DVD was so basic - why weren't there ANY special features (trailers of the original Karate Kid, Smurfs, and whatever the other one was do NOT count)?! I at least expected a gag reel at the end of the film by the credits like you usually get from most films, but instead we got PHOTOGRAPHS?! This wasn't exactly a 'small budget' film so where were the behind-the-scenes, cast interviews, and gag reel? I found special features on YouTube so why on earth weren't they on the DVD!? Seriously, what happened...

The best karate kid film

The funny thing about this film is that it's at points terrific and other points incredibly dull. The martial arts are fantastic and Jackie Chan finally gets a role where he is able to act. Jaden Smith does a decent job given the material, unfortunately he is hampered by a screenwriter that has no idea how kids actually interact. There are moments where you will cringe in a way that you haven't since 'The Office'. Certain scenes especially the journeying kind seem to be filled with inane blathering for no explicable reason, aside from the writer being afraid of silence. However in all seriousness despite the predictable nature of the film, and the stock characters, it does hit the emotional notes very well, and it's here that Smith excels. The interaction between Chan and Smith is where the film lives or dies and I'm happy to say their relationship is believable and at times touching. It's overlong and exceedingly dull at times, but overall I think it's worth a watch, especially for the price.

I grew up watching the original Karate Kid movies and they have been a huge part of my upbringing, due to my dad's encouraging me to take lessons from an early age. This film brought back so many fond memories from my karate years and its made me want to take it up again. It is just an incredible underdog story that moves you and makes you believe in the characters. Young Jaden Smith is a star to watch out for in the future and it looks bright for him. Jackie Chan gives the performance of his career and he has always been great to watch over the years. This film will warm your heart, open your mind and make you cheer with weep with happy tears because it is one of the best feel-good movies I have ever seen.

I saw this film at the cinema and fell in love with it, it is such a touching film and brings tears to your eyes. It's about a boy who moves with his mum to china and has to start a new life. He gets bullied at school and of course Jackie Chan saves the day, i am not a katate film person but loved this. Amazon was the cheapest to buy from, great sound and picture quality and value for money. Have tissues handy great film for all ages.

Ein genialer Film über Mut, sportliche Ehre, die Überwindung von unüberwindlich erscheinenden Hindernissen. Ein Happy End und sehr tiefgründig hinsichtlich der Gefühle, eine Liebesgeschichte inklusive. Den Film könnte ich immer wieder ansehen. Sehr sehr empfehlenswert.

Un remake de l original mais beau quand même

Like many people, I have fond nostalgic memories of the original. However, I feel this movie is just as good and excellent family entertainment that both kids and adults will love. I'm not a big fan of cliches or being emotionally manipulated and this movie's interpretation of Mr. Han's loss of his wife was very powerful. Jackie Chan and Lil' Smith kid did a great job acting for a tough scene. Sure the end of the scene was a bot cliche, but everything leading up to it made it ok. They referenced and nodded to the original through sight gags and came up with new ways to retell this story creatively and made it very exciting. Since they took some risks, you really doubted which way the move was going - even at the end. Sadly, many of the negative reviews are calling out one of two things: 1) The "karate" kid is now black and 2) He learned Kung Fu, not Karate. I thought it was all about the story? To the first point, both the original and the new version have nothing to do with race - even though both are about different cultures finding commonality in each other (Pat Morita was Japanese, people). In fact, in many spots where a less mature director would take advantage of a black kid from Detroit to bring "street smarts" to China, the high road is taken as are some of the opportunities for Chinese stereotypes. This movie was made with great respect of Chinese culture and not over representing an "American" attitude as a fish out of water. To the second point, I doubt most negative reviews would know that it was Kung Fu if the movie hadn't said so. Karate is a Japanese art, not Chinese, so it makes sense that he didn't learn Karate in China. However, I do have to agree that they called it the "Karate Kid" just for advertising purposes. I think people would have been ok with calling it the "Kung Fu Kid" with a nod as a Karate Kid remake. Why didn't the movie take place in Japan and call it Karate? Not sure. I highly recommend this movie for family and it works just as easily for adults. It's not as kiddie as people make it out to be and the maturity of the kids as both actors and characters far exceeds that of the original movie. I know we all have nostalgia for Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita (R.I.P!), but this movie is about as good a remake as the original and doesn't skimp on the same emotional roller coaster ride and life lessons.
