English Teatime Treats: Delicious Traditional Recipes Made Simple
R**K
Unique, novel and easy to make recipes that will make everyone thing you slaved all day (but you didn't).
I'm somewhat of a recipe hoarder, and always on the look out for something novel. I'm not one to create appetizers and things that require fuss and muss. I'm more of a one dish kind of person. So I was a bit skeptical of whether I would enjoy the book. However, it was on a free promo, so I thought I would check it out. I was pleasantly surprised at the contents. The author has fun facts listed with different recipes that make this book a joy to read. And these recipes are SO easy - even a child could make them - but at the same time they are very unique. Many of these treats are healthy - and that's important to me. Many of the recipes are gluten free (or can be easily adapted to be be) - and that's important to me. Treat recipes that use everyday ingredients that I have in my house - that makes things easy for me. Treats that can be thrown together in 30 minutes or less without much fuss - that means I can quickly throw something tasty together for that last minute arrival by that negative neighbor that you really don't want to see (a little sugar might turn the conversation around). Make your friends and neighbors jealous - create something totally different to take with you to that potluck.

A Must-have for Any Cook's Library
My wife and I love the UK tradition of teatime. We actively seek out hotels and restaurants that advertise teatime. We relish the opportunity when we have time to relax and enjoy an Earl Grey's at home too along with a teatime treat. This is a great little treasure of a cookbook is the first we have found that has true, traditional teatime snacks like you find in the UK. The book has some marvelous recipes interspersed with interesting historical tidbits about teatime treats. The illustrations perfectly match the topic, are beautifully photographed and germane to the recipes.Even someone like me, who would probably win the Worst Cook in America contest, can readily follow the directions. This cookbook is a must-have for anyone who enjoys entertaining or, like we do, enjoys following a fun and relaxing afternoon ritual to wind down your day.

Anything that is simple to make and delicious to eat has my immediate attention.
Anything that is simple to make and delicious to eat has my immediate attention. This beautiful book of tested recipes delivers the promise in offering both. The author Sandra Hawkins shares her simple ingredients and straightforward methods, along with the history behind each recipe, and some of the ingredients. She also tells a story or two about some famous people who made and even ate them! Sandra does not stop there; she kindly walks you through each step in making a great cup or pot of tea, so you can enjoy this delicious beverage with your homemade delights! Her photos of each treat as well as a few of London make this book unique. I hope you enjoy every page and every bite – like I plan to!

I am glad to have it in my library but it doesn't ...
I am glad to have it in my library but it doesn't inspire me to get a mixing bowl out to try a recipe. It does give me options if I am entertaining, but I bought another cookbook with a similar theme and I know I would grab it first before going to this one.

Fabulous English Cookbook made easy!
This is an to English Cookbook to own and I have many! I’ve made the Rock Cakes above and the Tiffin with apricots and they were a show stopping success. I can’t say how truly simple she had made theses recipes and I hope that Sandra has another in the works. 👏

These Recipes Look Amazing!
After watching the Great British Bake Off and seeing the amazing goodies created, I'm glad to have this book to try out some real English recipes. As a baker the recipes sound amazing and the pictures will make you drool. Medieval honey cake with earl gray tea frosting! I can't wait to try this one out. Oh and I'm a huge tea drinker too, so this book is perfect. Thanks Sandra for giving us American's access to your fine recipes from across the ocean. I love the stories and background included with each recipe too.

Discovered this book by accident but what a great find.
I discovered the book by accident whilst browsing for something else. Looked at the sample, and couldn’t wait to get the whole book. I have baked lots of theses goodies and more but the idea of cooking with so much less hassle sounds great. The method of prep and then cooking is simple and will be great to do with the granddaughter. I am already using cup measuring in some of my cooking so will start baking. Still learning about the sticks of butter though.

Loved the facts a nice book.
Liked the information and the photo's. Recipes are well written and clear. Liked the 30 minute and no kneading, who wouldn't.Liked that you informed that Victoria sponge is raspberry jam only but if its proper it should be two eggs weighed and the rest of dry ingredients the same ( proper women's institute) and please never mention aerosol cream and scones in an English teatime book, removed a star for that one and no marshmallows in anything.

Perfect for impatient bakers of all ages
I have tried a few of these recipes already and I'm really impressed; the coconut macaroons and fruit cake were an instant hit. It's refreshing that Sandra acknowledges that people who like to eat home made cakes don't necessarily like spending hours in the kitchen. If you prefer healthy home made cakes to sickly sweet cupcakes in neon colours, then this is the book for you!
