Which of the rca input on yamaha is to use, when connecting from an av pre-out? what volume should pre-out set to prevent distortion free sound?

Test the back inputs for the best sound. One line might be better than the others. Set the V to your ear comfort. Distortion varies with the signal on discs or Sat. signal. Test.

Do I also get the manufacture's 2-year warranty with the purchase of the renewal product?

I think you should contact Yamaha to get a definitive answer. I own the amplifier and am extremely happy with it.

Will equalizer work on this unit for all inputs??

Short answer is No, not for all inputs. If used ahead of a specific input, then yes. The same goes for a DAC, tuner with equalizer controls, etc. Personally, I have used a receiver with equalizer controls inputed by headphone to RCA out, and not find equalizer as useful as the built in tone controls of Amplifier which are very more useful as tone controls.

I have a r-n602, will the as501 (at 85 watts per) sound considerably stronger music wise than the r-n602??

No, 80 watts (8ohms) compared to 85 watts per channel would be negligible! What, if any difference, would likely be the lower cleaner noise floor ThD of: .019 (A-S501 ) compared to .04 of the receiver amount. Really splitting hairs, as average person likely might not hear any difference.
