Country Living Country Chic: Country Style for Modern Living

This book was published in 2001...I found a mention of it in Jan. 2014 while looking at comments on a more recent publication and decided to see if it was available used for a good price. Found it and purchased from amazon mktplace for the price of one issue of a decorating magazine. So glad I did b/c this is really a nice book. Although it purports to be country style, I think it reflects more eclectic decorating at its best. I liked the range of styles, esp the ethnic and bazaar styles, actually every section had something that appealed to me. Mainly this book encourages readers to explore their own style and interests in decorating their homes, an approach I strongly embrace, rather than purchasing one's home furnishings lock stock and barrel from your local furniture showroom. It is nice to come across a design book that has withstood the test of time and remains relevant 13 years in.

Filled with ideas that are fairly plain, not frilly. Looks to be done in more 2nd-hand, bargain, auction-finds type décor. Nothing fancy. Has chapters with Shaker, New England and modern Ethnic styles. I was looking for more the farmhouse look and shabby/chic which it doesn't seem to be much of styles as I would have liked. Therefore, it may not be as practical for me but still a nice coffee table book.

This book was a nice picture book of country rooms and homes. I did enjoy looking through. However, I thought some of the rooms were rather "outdated" in the country look, and some like "ethnic" were...well, bizarre!I did like the Shaker and more modern designs, and thing it's a fine book to flip through.

I was hoping this book contained more shabby chic decorating, but it was more country. It was fun browsing thru pictures and would recommend if you are looking for more country styles.

Many different styles of Country represented here. Lots of great pictures, good info on how the styles vary. It's a good resource to have!

My friend splurged for me at Christmas so I sent this book as thanks. She loved it. She keeps a lovely home and the photos of Country Chic appealed to her. She even had an interior designer friend over perusing the book one afternoon over tea. My friend said she had to keep an eye on the book lest her designer friend, who loved it too, abscond with it! A good buy.
