The Return of the Real: The Avante-Garde at the End of the Century

I read through the first section on Minimalism to a major roadblock. I did not understand section 2.

This book was instrumental during my research in graduate school on the nature of contemporary aesthetics and parsing dialogues on contemporary visual art. I think of this as a guidebook: Foster's lucid, approachable tone to the art of looking at Art is invaluable to student, scholar, and art enthusiast. Art becomes grounded firmly in the present, and any reference or inference to the "past" is one invoked by nostalgia and context, almost entirely. Postwar theory didn't experience proper documentation until the mid to late 1980's, and Foster's text is essential within that corpus.

Has some notes and scratches, but not in bad condition.I think they provide good products. I recommend it. ^^

It's Foster, thru and thru. Get over it and work thru it. Must have if you are interested in why the art world looks the way it does today.

Now THIS is some art writing. Brilliantly developed, one rich, full chapter flow beautifully to the next. Exquisite read.

Good read

A quite interesting book about visual arts since '1960 written by the author and editor of "Anti-Aesthetics".@Especially the analysis of the recent relationship between Art and Anthropology/Ethnography is unique and suggestive.
