This has been perfect for my son
This has been perfect for my son. Only down is mine doesn't want to do the connect for the computer correctly. It still updates and install games so that is all that really matters. The Web Access protection is wonderful cause I don't have to worry about my 4 Yr old coming across anything on the Internet that is not age appropriate for him.

We bought this for our 3 year old grandson and I must say; he loves it and it travels well with the extra case we purchased. This would have received all 5 stars had I realized that add-on purchases are a requirement as the kids master the learning games quite quickly.

The companies engineers need to go back to development school - hardware and software.
The engineers who designed the hardware and software couldn't have made it more challenging to set up. I have my own company with a giant eCommerce site so I'm pretty well versed in hardware and software. The user interface is horrible. Trying to work with the onscreen user controls is really challenging. You rarely get any feedback and when you do so there is a great deal of latency. Moreover, you almost have to mash the screen to the point of breaking it. The drop down menus are certainly not designed for an adult to easily navigate. Between their small size, erratic behavior and latency, making a selection is not easy. Frequently, you have to mash a button multiple times before moving to the next step. There is significant latency from when you press a drop down to when it responds (if at all). For example, when selecting 'Gender', I had to press that button 10 times and then I have to 'mash' to 'Next' button three times in order for it to be accepted and get any kind of feedback. When selecting my '11th' and free app, I had to mash the 'Sugar Bugs' icon 8 times before the screen changed. After that I had to 'download' it requiring another 4 hard pressure mashes on the button titled 'Download'.Then I wanted to use a $30 'Digital Download Card' to get a free app (In The Kitchen With Hap). It wasn't clear on the device how to do it so I went on my PC located it and put it in my cart. The PC web interface UI is just as bad. I had to hunt an peck to find the 'path' to check out. I finally discovered 'Checkout' by going to the top right of the page and clicking on the 'Account' button. The concept in user in user interface design is called 'GTC' - Get The Cash. Make it easy for the consumer to understand the next logical step. At checkout, I entered the code for the $30 and nothing was deducted.I saw a field for a discount code so I entered the code from my card and hit enter. Nothing changed. The cost was not deduced. I then read the 'mice type' on the discount offer card and learned that you first have to log into another site first and enter the discount code information, then log back into your account in order to be able to use it. No comment how non-standard that process is. The 'Checkout' button isn't on the screen buy the way, its hidden under 'Account' in the upper right hand part of the page. The app never downloaded to my device so I went to leapfrog and followed their online instructions exactly. I was trying to resolve, why my app didn't download. The instructions on this page are written incorrectly. They tell you to click on a button labeled 'Manage Apps', but there is no such button on the scree they reference. There is one call 'Content Manager' (which is really what they meant, but the bozo who wrote the instructions didn't check his or her work). Then it tells me to expand the "Purchased" menu. You should see here any apps which are purchased but not presently installed on the LeapPad. Tap "Download" next to any app you wish to download. I saw the one I purchased and it gives me the install date (today), but there is no 'download' option, only a red trash can. Moreover its telling me that its downloaded, but I can find it among my apps. At this point, I'm thinking, I should have just purchased an Ipad Mini. Even the power cable can only be plugged in one way. Why wouldn't the designers just follow Apple and do it the right way in the first place. Designing yesterdays technology... tomorrow. The developers are... to use a Steve Jobs description, 'real bozos'. You can kill me, but please don't torture me. We have an LF2 and our grandchild likes it. My comments regard the setup only. I will update this after a month of hands on use and decide if its going back to Amazon. To the folks at the company, I'm sorry to be so harsh, but remember, 'a complaint is a gift'.

My 4 year old daughter loves her new LeapPad Ultra. It was a great price, plus it included gel skin protector and a $30 download card. Even though the apps are expensive full price, they have a lot of sales through the app store, plus there are promo codes you can get via email. Overall, it was a great investment since it keeps my daughter happy and she's learning at the same time.

Good Pad for a Kid
Our 3 year old grandson received this for his birthday and he loves it. It was easy for him to figure out. The only thing we didn't realize was that the LeapFrog games are so expensive to download. One game cost $22..........so you can't buy much with the $30 gift card.

She keeps saying it's broke and it does seem like it to her
Bought this to replace a lost leap pad 2. I had the leap pad 2 in my cart but was excited about having the wifi and went with this one! Well, my daughter wants her old one back, gets soooo frustrated, and even threw it the other day! I don't blame her because it freezes every 5 minutes or less resulting in restarting it over and over again! She keeps saying it's broke and it does seem like it to her. It also takes forever to load the games and to a 4 yr old, this is tough too! Her older sibling don't want to play with it either because they will have to restart so much. I am thinking about contacting leap pad and asking for an even trade to get the leap pad 2 back!
