Disappointing book
This was a disappointing book written about a topic that certainly deserves more attention. The title had originally interested me in this book - but the title proved to be misleading. The title does include the phrase, "How It's Done and Simple Ways to Prevent It". Sadly, no real useful theoretical or practical information was provided about how electronic eavesdropping is conducted or countermeaures to eavesdropping. A more appropriate title would have been: "The Lazyman's Guide to Electronic Eavesdropping". It appears the author decided one evening to write a book about eavesdropping over a case of beer while seated in his kitchen. The author's writing style is clear and easy to understand despite lacking much detail or supporting data. The author avoids the common pitfall of using too much technical jargon and provides clear suggestions to those contemplating the use of electronic eavesdropping or of countermeasures to eavesdropping (e.g. seek professional assistance, legal considerations, etc). However, so little technical or procedural detail is provided that the reader does not come away with any clear understanding of the topic after reading the book. Details that are provided tend to be trivial and are subject to change. The author appears to be anti-government or paranoid as he writes extensively of "big brother's" alleged illegal eavesdropping activity and of the need to frustrate any government agents that are eavesdropping. Not recommended.
